Heads up to all: Campbell University is a known Baptist school, and they take it seriously. I dunno if they're free-will or hard-shelled Baptists. Could be hard-shell. I wouldn't put it past them.

Its a beautiful campus, but I beg you to not be fooled. There's more excitement in Furman's Student Center on a Tuesday night than the whole of Campbell University on a Saturday night, including its titular home of Buies Creek North Carolina. In fact, if I was told I had only one week to live I'd move to Buies Creek right away, because every day there feels like an eternity.

The Campbell Camels are not as bad as their 3-9 record from last year indicates. They can put points on the board. Or, they could last year.

Camels humped WCU pretty good up in Cullowhee last year. WCU’s vaunted O did not even cross the goal line at all - only TD they scored was a result of the good fortune they received (Little People involved, for sure) while getting their own FG Attempt blocked!

Regardless of Tex’s inability to discover rewarding social engagement in a college town with 6,000 total students, of which 60% are female; Eastern NC BBQ is available in the area, and partaking of that most high delicacy can be an earth-shaking experience.

More relevant, a native of the general area, FUBeAR bears witness that there is a significant possum population present there, many of which, apparently, prefer to use the abundant 2 lane highways there as their preferred route of ambulatory travel.

Will anxiously await Tex’s full possumry analysis and his anticipated impact that may have on this important road contest for our Paladins against a worthy CAA competitor.

You’re questioning FUBeAR’s journalistic capabilities/accuracy? Very hurtful.

Hi FUBear,

Oh, there's some excellent possumology over yonder in Harnett County, home to Campbell University and their myopic sola scriptura universe. Indeed, Buies Creek is home to world-renowned Slow Poke the Possum.

The Story of Slow Poke the Possum: In 1970, a possum named Slow Poke, found wandering across a Harnett County highway, gained local fame when he was captured and groomed for a beauty contest, winning the title of "Prettiest Possum". After the "Prettiest Possum" competition, there was a public outcry when Governor Bob Scott planned to serve Slow Poke as part of a dinner. Under public pressure, he pardoned Slow Poke, and he was released into Raven Rock State Park in Harnett County. Now, if you think I'm making that up, please Google it. I'm not.

tl;dr - The Camels will be a tough competitor b/c they know possumry.

50 miles further east of Buies Creek, in Goldsboro, but worth the drive…or see if you can get them to cater your tailgate -> https://www.wilbersbbq.com/catering

And if you DO eat at any of these fine dining establishments, show some class and resist the urge to drink the mustard based BBQ sauce directly from the bottle. It would reflect poorly on Furman.

NOT mustard; vinegar.

And there SHOULDN’T be any bottles of sauce on the table because the meat is already cooked & sauced perfectly. But, they’ve probably yielded to the demands of baser people and made accommodations for such cretins to ruin perfection.

I thought that area of NC had vinegar based sauce, not mustard. Mustard sauce is mainly found in the awful midlands of SC. It should be outlawed.

I am sold. This place reminds me of the old Big T's in Gadsden. There were three employees, Big T, Mama T and Little T. Menu was pulled pork from the whole hog, rice with liver hash, collard greens and a roll. If there were other menu items, I never saw them. They had cinderblock pits with old mattress box springs out back. It was terrific.

I now have Goldsboro on the map.

By the way, terrific book here that I recommend. Have given a few as gifts.
