Last season 35 of the 44 players listed in Furman's two-deep (22 players on offense plus 22 on defense) were juniors, seniors, or graduates. Heading into Saturday's game at VMI, 31 of the top 44 own either freshman (23) or sophomore (11) eligibility status.

The SID math doesn’t quite add up but… Basically, around Half of the 2 deep will be Freshmen.

Yep tried to tell everyone to curtail the optimism before the season started. No,way feasible to replace the losses. Not just upperclassmen but really good, talented players. FSU was in the same situation and they are now 1-7 and just lost to Duke for the first time ever.

The FSU analogy occurred to me too. In part because until our further injuries both Furman and FSU had strong defense (5 three and outs at Citadel to close the game) and very not-strong offense.

If we had just listened to AP none of this would have happened! ;)

Optimism is usually good, and a lot more fun. Pessimism may hold, at times, more realism, but is the enemy of hope. Disappointment is the nature of sports, and of course life in general. If all this weren't so, winning wouldn't be so rewarding.

I might suggest that "everyone" knew this year would be an off year. To call it an off year before it manifests as so is not sporting - its the proverbial Wofford in the punchbowl.

Seems like an appropriate point within this thread for an apt Football-themed (well…sorta) musical interlude.

“…Football Teams that torn this boy apart…”

Kickers … :x

This is at least a 20-year running tradition on the UFFP though. :D You get points for consistency!
