This season reminds me of 2013. We stank at the beginning of the year.

Garner Webb, lost 21-28
Coastal Carolina, lost 28-35
PC, barely won 21-20 (they missed a last second chip shot FG)
Citadel, won 24-17
Elon, lost 25-28
Chatt, lost 9-31 (got our heads kicked in - sound familiar?)
App St, won 27-10
LSU, lost 16-48
GaSo, won 16-14
Samford, won 35-17
WCU, won 32-20
Wofford, won 27-14

Made the playoffs, beat SC State, lost to ND State

No reason we can't run the board - like 2013

If we are being completely honest this season feels much more like 3-9 2014 and 3-8 2016...

Rebuilding year, take our lumps and hope we get much better by next season...

A few differences.

1. The 2013 team was marvelous at forcing turnovers. We finished that season, I believe, with a +12 turnover ratio. This year's team is something at like -10 on the season in turnovers. Through six games, Furman has almost as many turnover (14) as the 2013 team did through 14 games (17).

We aren't going to beat anyone turning the ball over 4 or 5 times a game. We probably aren't beating Berea High School doing that every week.

2. The 2013 team was not particularly good offensively, but had an NFL caliber LT in Dakota Dozier and a junior QB in Reese Hannon. We were pretty good at getting the ball to about the 30 yard line where Ray Early would drill a kick.

That season, we beat a lot of teams by forcing turnovers, getting our offense in a good spot, and then running the ball enough and throwing it well enough to get it in kick range and we three pointed teams to death.

3. That said, I think this team is far more talented than the 2013 team top to bottom.

We have got to stop shooting ourselves in the foot with turnovers. We've got to stop putting our defense in a bad position. Our offense needs to maintain possession long enough to at least flip field position and force the other team to deal with a long field.

We're talented enough to play with anyone, but we are well lagging the 2013 team in terms of execution.

Last year +17 in turnover margin.
This year -8 in turnover margin.
25 difference says a lot.
We lost 2 fumbles all last year, 5 so far this year.
We threw 8 nterceptions all last year. We threw half that many Saturday.

You're right. This isn't 2013.
LOL. no, it’s definitely NOT 2013. That team at least executed well enough to hang around with most teams. This team kills itself…. And makes 2013 look like an offensive juggernaut

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage
