UofSC Gamecocks baseball season has now ended.
I hope to not hear any additional comments about how wonderful it would have been for Furman to have not dropped baseball so that we could have played them in a midweek game.
Lots of schools beat them in midweek games this season
It would have been no big deal for Furman to have beaten them. Furthermore, the chances of Furman to have beaten them would have been quite low anyway, this season and any season.
Furman vs. South Carolina Baseball All-Time Record
57-118-2 ... 1896 to 2020
11-34 since 1989…so about a 25% chance of winning in the modern era, although in 2018 & 2019, each Team won one game of the 2 played, but they only played once (a Cock win) in the Covid-shortened 2020 season.
What was the record from 2000 through 2020? The last 21 years of Furman baseball. The 21st century.
Or if you prefer, what was the record from 2000 through 2019?

Ok I did! 😀 From 2000-2020 Furman won 28.5 percent of their games with SC. The record was 10-25. So about every other year FU beat SC. The Gamecocks were very good in those years. In 2005 FU won both games 6-2 and 11-5. The last game that was played was in 2020 and SC won in 12 innings, 3-1. In 2011 SC was 55-14 and won the national championship. One of their 14 losses was to Furman. I know the above is disapponting to Affirm as he was expectng much worse results.😳

I will still say it would have been no big deal if we had beaten them this year.
I will still say, also, that occasionally beating them (as was no big deal. Over all history, and 1989-2020, and in the 21st century, it was not a big deal, despite the data so proudly depicted by FUBeAR and by apaladin.
No, I am NOT disappointed, as apaladin stated that I would be, that the wins and losses against them were not “much worse”.

Just data; just depicted.

Numbers don’t have feelings.

FYI former Paladin John Micheal Bertrand was first team all-ACC was 7-2 with a 2.26 era and opp. batted .216 against him. 86 k’s 18 walks. Starting pitcher for Notre Dame today in their first game in the ACC against FSU.

Update: JMB beat Florida State. Pitched 8 innings, gave up one run, struck out 8 and walked one. So I guess you could say without a doubt that FU had at least one pitcher that could beat anyone in the country when ED chose to end the FU baseball program. Thanks ED.

About Us

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage
