Speaking of wheels, I guess Travis Blackshear is going to start out on the Defensive side of the ball http://www.furmanpaladins.com/sports/m- ... k?view=bio. Surprises me as he looked pretty special with the rock in his mitts and fleeter than fleet https://www.hudl.com/video/3/5620088/5a ... 2bd8bf601d

Oh well, I know this Staff knows where to place all their pieces on the gridded Stratego board much better than FUBeAR does. I always put my Flag on the front row.

Great call on Blackshear… speed is a funny thing to judge… Blackshear appears pretty darn quick - plus - appears to break a lot of tackles if you don't lock him up. Blackshear posts a 11.25 100M time. Blackshear seems to have straight-line speed with some power. Bell and Watkins are ankle breakers both remind me of GSU's Jason Foster.

So we now have on offense Morehead, Bell and Watkins that were track guys - all capable of running 10.8 100M.
Not to overlook an existing player — a nugget I found on Quandarius Weems bio - set a new Furman record at the 2017 SoCon Outdoor Championships ran a 14.5 110M Hurdle breaking Benji Motte's record dating back to 1987.

I had a defensive line coach in high school (who I learned virtually everything I've ever known about defensive football from) tell me once that he can win a bunch of games if you gave him two good cornerbacks. The idea being that those two guys can eliminate much of the downfield game and allow the defense to throw 8 men into the box.

Again, the coaches know the players better than I do, but my inclination is good CBs are more valuable than good RBs. Undersized quick RBs should be widely available to Furman in recruiting and have a skill set that usually can more easily transfer to the college game. Good CBs are going to be harder to find.

If you've got a guy that would be good at both, you keep him on defense (IMO). He can still flip to offense if there is a big need in the backfield. We've done that a bunch over the years.

Coach (Bobby) Johnson once told me that CB’s are WR’s what cain’t catch too good.

Or WRs are CBs that don't like to hit.

About Us

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage

GoPaladins.com is not affiliated with Furman University or its athletics programs.
