A friend in Aiken said that the Augusta group was making a push for it....

That would be a bad move IMHO. Not really a SoCon area. Would get no support except maybe Mercer,

But, the citizens of Augusta might support SoCon baseball. I am sure theSoCon is open to increased attendance and enthusiasm for the tournament. Sadly, it’s not successful in Greenville.

I doubt very seriously that the Augusta community would support SoCon baseball with no local team.In reality what community would? It has been successful in the past in Greenville when FU was better. Unfortunately the SoCon was down this year and the best team was the farthest away. It does better when the SoCon is up and there are several teams that are good. That wasn't the case this year. The tournament needs to be in a central place like Greenville so when the league is good more of the teams fans can come. Outside of corporate sponsorship Asheville does not support the basketball tourney either as 99% of attendance comes from the teams fans.

One other thing about Augusta is it is part of the Augusta-Columbia-Florence corridor that has to be among he hottest spots in the country. :D

Fred is usually on top of all the goings on in that Aiken-Augusta-Barnwell-Edgefield area. I think he knows the Coroner down there or something.

SoCon website shows the 2020 tourney scheduled for Fluor Field May 19-24.
Excellent! Thanks MP. Unfortunately I think Furman will have a down year next year considering the losses.

About Us

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage

GoPaladins.com is not affiliated with Furman University or its athletics programs.
