I had occasion to meet and chat briefly with this fine young man yesterday. It's hard to believe that this freshman speedster, who so thrilled Furman fans on a fall Saturday at Michigan State a few years ago is graduating this spring from Furman. This kid showed the speed and agility to scare the cleats off the Spartans that day and to give Furman fans the promise of a truly outstanding running back just starting his Paladin career. it wasn't to be . He got hurt, I think possibly that very afternoon, and was never able to recover from an ensuing series of concussion protocols. His college football career ended before it really got off the ground for all intents and purposes, although he tried to come back several times. But his education and development as a person did not end. Although he could not play his beloved football any longer, he spent this past season working with the young backs on this years squad. He has completed his academic requirements and in a few months will receive a degree from Furman University; prepared to live a full and contributing life. I was the one who thought of what might have been. Darius is thinking of what is to be. He is a credit to the University.

Thank you for this update. So very well said. Did he happen to mention what his future plans are? I'm sure he would make a phenomenal coach if he wanted to go down that path. Clearly the backs benefited from his knowledge this past season.

He did not say what his plans are but one of the other players told me after Darius left that he was very interested in coaching. He did say how much he enjoyed working with the backs last season. He is a very together kid and has lots of options I would think. Fortunately, he appears fully recovered from his injuries.
