How do we feel about this game? I know we can win, but I do believe Gardner-Webb will be very good this year and certainly gave us all we wanted last year at Timmons (gave national champion Virginia all they wanted too for a half). I hate to put too much pressure on one game, especially in the first game on the road against a good team, but I'm very excited to see how we look without MR.

I think you nailed it. It's a tough game, on the road. We could lose. We could lose on Friday night. But ultimately if we learn what we need to learn and improve from one game to the next these games mean ALMOST nothing.

We proved last year that we can have a fantastic early season, get ranking in the T25, and still not get an at-large bid....which is really the only reason why these games would be important.

Heck a couple years ago we lost our opener on the road to Presbyterian but finished 14-4 in the SoCon.....

That being said, I'll be cheering hard for the Dins and disappointed if we don't play to our potential and get saddled with an opening night L

It could go either way. There has to be growing pains without MR. Hopefully the won't be glaring. Like PC said I will be disappointed if we don't get the W Tuesday night. Are we safe to assume the starting lineup will be:
Slawson
Gurley
Mounce
Lyons
Hunter
or maybe
Bothwell
Gurley
Mounce
Lyons
Hunter

I will be there plus one.

STARTING LINE UP

I think Tre Clark will start over Slawson or Bothwell. It would not surprise me if Slawson ended up with more minutes than Clark though. Who starts is not always who finishes either.

Look for instant offense off the bench from PUGH.

I am nervous. And cautiously optimistic.

If this team gets better as season goes on, it could be an exciting year once again.

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage
