I TRY not to get too worked up over polls in September but how does this make any sense???
10. Illinois St (3-1)
last week #14
result BYE
11. Central Arkansas (3-1)
last week #15
result BYE
14. Furman (3-2)
last week #16
defeated ETSU 17-10
Illinois St and Cent Ark each jump 4 spots as a reward for not playing, and we move up 1 spot with a win over last season SoCon Co-Champ.....
singularly it seems wrong BUT its the slot voting which
in this case I can abide by and see the logic:
Using STATS poll
http://www.fcs.football/cfb/polls.asp?week=05&div=1aa
Here is an example, Montana at 18 killed UC Davis who was ##4 at Davis !!. So Montana (as they should) jumped us - I don't think anyone would argue that as they killed a top 5 team... and they jumped over many teams as they are now number 8.. but UC Davis fell to a spot just above us at 12. While the two teams you mention were just high enough (just barely above us) to benefit from that fall by UC Davis. We were not as was no one below us - so we lost a spot by Montana jumping and we didn't quite benefit from UC Davis fallin'. Same thing w UNI losing to Weber State. Weber State is top 5 and moved to number 4 by beating a good UNI team. That doesn't affect us at all. But UNI losing that game took them from 9 down to.. you guessed it - 13. Just above us. So again the two teams you mention benefit from being slightly higher than us and get the bump we did not.
That's why I am so glad we started in top 25 this year. We have gotten similar bumps that those below us have not. I get your point but this week I think the polls are pretty right on. Teams fell as they should we just weren't QUITE high enough to benefit.
In summary, number 4 fell to 12 and 9 fell to 13 and that's the difference. Had we been ranked 12th we would have moved up 4 spots instead of 2 in STATS.
To this point KSU won and DROPPED a spot. because they beat an NAIA and Villanova just jumped right over them by beating top 20 Maine. At least we rose two or so...
Also, in BOTH STATS and COACHES we benefited from Nicholls losing to an FBS (they dropped about 4) which is nice for us but possibly a little harsh on them. granted, they lost 24-3 or so to Texas State (who is like Georgia State as they played to OT)
