Appy will never be in the ACC. No way the big 4 would ever let that happen. They never let ECU in, even when they were beating ACC teams regularly, so why would they let Appy in? No other team from NC will ever get in the ACC.

You are correct, but moving to FBS has been positive. The Sun Belt's bowl games are indeed underwhelming at this time, but wins over both Carolinas helps offset that...big time. Not that either was such a good team to beat this year, but just being able to schedule them and others like them makes the Texas States, South Alabamas, ULMs and crappy bowl opponents worthwhile. A lot of us old timers really miss you guys.

Meanwhile, App State won the Sun Belt, is ranked, and will not be going to a big bowl. I just don’t see a lot of upside to being low FBS unless you can go to a major bowl as Group of 5 winner. Which is a challenge as a member of Sun Belt or Conference USA.

I agree that money is the major upside of being in FBS.
I do not see as Furman having the resources to move up to FBS.
And, it’s great if Furman can win our present conference, and that in and of itself is a worthy goal.
However, regardless of how (championship or at-large) we get to FCS playoffs, it is highly unlikely that we will progress very far with the present setup.
There is the FBS advantage that, even if your bowl is lower tier, you can follow up a good season with only one more game and it can be a win; instead of traipsing around the country to progressive playoff games that very few people are interested in.
It would be good, in my opinion, for FCS to cut back to only 8 or at most 16 playoff teams. Get rid of the 24 model.
Maybe if FCS would cut back to 8 playoff teams, there could be 8 FCS bowls authorized to take “the 16 best teams that did not make playoffs” and “FCS conference champions that did not make playoffs.” Those 8 FCS bowls could take place on a Friday, Saturday, or Monday each year that falls between December 19 and December 22.

Good to hear from you HiHi and yes we miss yall too. After the season you had, you have to be diappointed in playong UAB in a bowl game? Is that where you had to go? A shame they couldn't come up with a better opponent. I see you lost your coach today. Was he in his first year?

Yes, he was one and done but paid for his own salary and a year of our next coach's with his buyout. I would call it a win win.

Now it looks like App AD headed to Cincinnati. The price of success. In football at least.

BN may get an offer from Boone, although that might be considered a lateral move.

The Apps probably would not hire him. After all, he has never won a game in Boone.
Would definitely be ironic. Kinda like Taylor Lamb as Apps qb.

Yeah. I remember the "Miracle on The Mountain" in 2002.

Wonder if Bobby Lamb would be interested in the ASU job. After all, he so loved the place that he sent his son.

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage
