Hero Sports just put out their Top 25 Recruiting Classes as of October.
https://herosports.com/fcs/football-201 ... -2018-ajaj

If you want the story quick…
Furman ranked #7
Richmond #9
Elon #14
Wofford #16
Mercer #17
Chattanooga just outside the top twenty-five.

The top 10 has six high-academic institutions, JMU and NDSU are ranked #2nd and #3rd. Since I'm a recruiting nerd I reached out to Brian before this list was released — not confirmed but I'm pretty sure he did not include OT Pearson Toomey as a Furman commit. Toomey based on how HERO is ranking FCS players is another top twenty OL pickup, not sure if he would bump Furman to #5 or #6 but that's a possibility. Anyways this is shaping up to be an impressive class… lots of players with tons of offers several with over 20 offers.

BTW… Furman commit Jacob Johanning will be playing in the North-South All-Star game.

Great to see so many high academic schools doing well in HS recruiting. We need that to somewhat offset the transfer factor that some schools employ quite a bit. I think the FU class may well wind up in the top 5 with the very recent additions and likely would already be there already if the Veneziale commit would have stuck - or if he rethinks his decision. The staff is already building a championship caliber program and this class will certainly add to that depth. We might even take the Linebacker U nickname away from Penn State with the large number of quality young backers we are accumulating. Besides being good, who would want to play against a team with a linebacker named SLAY? :D

^^ Jasper I like how your thinking… twitter is an interesting snapshot into these players and who follows who.
Veneziale was one of the first - to like Slay's committed tweet and he also re-tweeted it.

Another player who was at the Samford game - Jake Kimmelman WR/DB Southside Christian.
Kimmelman has had an offer from Furman since August 1. Jake is 6-2 190 and is listed one of the top receivers in the state. Not sure if Kimmelman is going to play in a postseason all-star game (Johanning will play in the N/S game). I don't Kimmelman but based on Southside Christian Football's tweets they're expecting him to get more offers. I'd love to see the Dins get both Johanning and Kimmelman local guys.

MLB/FB Ty Youngblood from Greeneville, TN was at the Samford game - Ty is now tweeting an offer from Furman.

Plays both ways, looks like another good MLB prospect, but he could also play running back for the Dins.

Slay - Youngblood as linebackers? All we need is a Butkus now. :)

His twitter says class of 2020, so I take it that we are offering Juniors. Which is pretty cool.

Youngblood: another good name for a LB. I think we're on a roll.

Just a reminder. Furman has a QB commitment, one Carter Bir from Flowery Mound, TX. Don't know if that means PWO, WO, partial or full scholarship, but he says he's a commit.
I had forgotten that.

I never know the internal workings. Seems like a good season to take a walkon types at QB, especially if the coaching staff is bullish on the young guys on roster.

I also think that this would be a great offseason to look at a transfer QB if we were so inclined. I suppose the reason there is such a large gap between Harris Roberts and everyone else is due to moving Avery Armstrong to WR.

Not sure why someone who's Twitter name is "The Gunslinger" would want to go to Wofford.

To your point fanatic… this is St. Joe's first season running the option. Bynum, I believe has been a QB at StJoe's since the 6th grade. Up until Wheeler and Nash joined St. Joe's the Knights were a pass-happy program… thus the nickname Gunslinger.

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage
