Checked some more highlights for Thomas. Verified what I saw earlier - very good shooter who probably needed a bit more development time. Didn't realize before that he redshirted because of injury a year ago. Probably hard to train up with a shoulder issue until you fully heal. Will be very interesting to see his development for the Paladins.
Impressive list of offers in high school - Illinois, Marquette, Ohio State, Wisconsin, Northwestern, Virginia Tech, etc. We have signed guys with more listed offers but very few with 2/3 of their offers from the Big 10 and ACC.
Has there been a change in focus on our transfer recruiting? We were focusing on D2 transfers but now we have three in the past two years from other D1 teams.
Asa Thomas is a VERY good get and could really excel here.
Brownell at Clemson had hoped that Thomas was going to fill that role of spot up shooter, can come off a screen and drown you in 3 balls guy. Then he got hurt which derailed him a little, and at somewhere between 180-200 lb, he was too small to really play forward in the ACC and Clemson played a 3 guard offense and had the Hunters and Zackery and Heidbrieder came in the portal and his minutes were gone.
At Furman, his comp is probably Tom House. He can play 2, 3 or small 4 in a pinch. He can shoot the lights out, moves around really well, has decent handles for a big kid and can excel in our offense coming of high ball screens and hitting shots. He's more of a big guard than a small forward to me but you can put him in lineups with House, and Johnston and brother someone is going to have a mismatch and be open for a three. I am not sure how well he can defend, and that may have played a role in his lack of minutes at Clemson, I don't know. He is a high character, high culture guy and will be a plus to us off the court. Ideally, he stays all three years and makes a ton of shots.
