I suspect they kept this one on the back burner in the event that it mattered for postseason purposes, which it will not.
Had it mattered that woulda been real wacky. Say it was a close tie with Furman Mercer and Sammy. They would have to let this weekend play out and if say Furman win or whatever needed to occur that would have been a Wednesday game? Not important now but eventually will happen with a crazy northern snow storm in early November or something. A team on bubble will need a make up.

Wednesday make up game would be quite unfair. But didn’t happen. I did want this for home game and another game of reps. I mean game reps Do Matter. That’s a given. Number of games played is huge … of well. Keep improving.

Go Furman !

One day if the opportunity presents I would like to ask JD what the contingency was for playing this game. Or if there really was one and they held it back to deliver the bad news when no one would care as much.

I'm betting on the latter.

Same. I doubt there ever was a plan. It’s going to
Happen one day at some school. All it takes is a storm

Interesting article in today's The State. It took to the end of the article to find out even if Clemson had said yes, the game would not have taken place. "Furman wanted to play a game at Memorial Stadium after hurricane. Why Clemson said no." https://www.thestate.com/sports/college ... l?tbref=hp

Basically, the story was that we reached out to Clemson to try to play it on Sunday. Clemson said no because with everything going on they were barely able to pull off one game, and did not feel like they could do 2 that weekend.

But, even if Clemson said yes, it would not have happened because Samford lost their hotels due to power outages and could not get alternate lodging because it was all filled up with people who had lost power or had storm damage. So, Samford would not have traveled regardless of venue.

The one thing I don't understand is whether we considered playing there at Samford and flipping this years game to a home game for us.

Ultimately, with no playoff implications, it was easier to cancel and the athletic departments probably ended up saving money.

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage
