Heard Bob say in the postgame that the team had a goal to restrict Mercer's shooting to under 30 3pt attempts. It seems that this applies to Samford as well. Samford shoots a lot of threes and when they are held to lower attempts, they seem beatable. I am curious to see what the Dins show on Wednesday. Bob historically gets Furman ready for Samford.

Remember, with all the dysfunction of last year, Furman was a botched play from sweeping that Samford team in conference play.

I have watched a couple Sammy games including the first half of their win over Woffy. Here's the scouting report.

According to Doomed Din the goal against Mercer was to limit their 3 pt attempts to below 30. Sounds good for Sammy too. Their big guys #33 and #35 can shoot it from outside so we better be on them. #3 and #5 can score from anywhere and they are gonna be tough. Point guard #21 is also a good shooter as is #2 who comes off the bench. We're going to need a monumental defensive effort to slow these guys down.

Defensively they are in your face full court for 40 minutes and play at least 11 guys to try to wear you down. I detest a team that presses full court the whole game but it seems to work for them. They say a team that presses hates to be pressed so maybe we ought to give them a taste of their own medicine. But not the whole game.

When we beat the press we need to attack and make them pay. When we don't I believe we need to work the offense and be selective on shot selection and make an effort to get the ball inside and maybe get their bigs in foul trouble.

I have confidence Coach R will have the team motivated and will have a good game plan.

Quick comparison of SoCon results.

Samford lost to ETSU at home by 5. We beat ETSU at home by 5. When ETSU won at Samford (Samford's only SoCon loss,) Samford shot the ball slightly better than ETSU, and had a small rebounding edge, ETSU took 7 more shots - fueled by 7 more steals. When we beat ETSU they had a small rebounding advantage, and only 2 more steals. Both team shot about the same FG percentages but ETSU missed 9 FTs.

Samford beat Wofford, UNCG, VMI, and Chattanooga. We lost to those teams. We beat WCU by 29, they beat the Catamounts by 19. Samford has played 5 of their first 8 at home. We have played 5 of 8 on the road.
