Welcome Taylen!

Feels similar to Perkins. A veteran DB who can play multiple positions. Decent PFF grade from last year (76). I wonder how it compared to the rest of our corners. My guess is he would have been the highest graded corner on our team.

Looks like he’s a Safety in his vid …

After further review…not on 2-Deep 1st 2 games of 2024. Then listed as backup Safety for 3 games, and then a backup CB for the final 7 games. FUBeAR sees him as a Safety or Spur, but FUBeAR will defer to Coach Spangler and Coach Vaughn, allowing them to position this Player appropriately.

…and the way he hits / body type, might be play Spur (that’s the DB/LB hybrid…right? …and the Bandit is the DE/LB hybrid. Correct?

That has been my thought on him as well. He listed himself as a CB/nickel. So maybe the coaches view him as the Spur.

Of course maybe they thought let’s bring him in and see who wins the spot between Burrell, McLeod, and Blaylock. 2nd place goes to the spur with Hartwell maybe.

D3 First Team All American

I somehow missed his offer from 12/1. Had offers from Arkansas Pine Bluff and Marist.

Productive player in D3. This video I think shows decently quick hips which is a big thing for corners. I would guess we’re done at DB now but we’ll see!

Y’all think Wesley from Wesleyan would be willing to change his 1st name to Furm?

Big step up from D3 CB to FCS CB. He was ‘well-decorated’ at that level though.

IF he has the raw athleticism to make the jump up, he’ll be good-to-go after Spring Practice. If not, well, he can certainly contribute on Special Teams and in the locker room.

I find it encouraging that even though CCH and staff put on a good face and tried to say “we’re not that far away” they realize we need a lot of help and have jumped into the portal with both feet!

And whomever was glad Wofford retained two good players (despite finishing 7th). BOO TO THAT. Pulley and Coombs. They beat us. Again. It’s better for us that they lose the two guys than retain them. And right now I don’t feel good about getting a W on Wofford next year. Beat citadel. Beat Wofford.
I'm not sure you completely read all of the old posts. I posted it was a big deal that they were able to get those two guys back, but I never applied happiness, sadness, or anger to it. I guess because I didn't outright voice my displeasure you took it as I was glad somehow? Anyways....

By the time this is all said and done when we get to fall practice, every team is going to have a lot of question marks I believe. You can see from Bear's 2 deep pics there there is going to be a decent amount of turnover from the top teams. Mercer's doesn't look too bad so far, so they are certainly better positioned to stay near the top. WCU and UTC have a lot of holes to fill. Samford always seems to have a lot of turnover so who know what you'll get from them. ETSU has lost a few good young players already. It's hard to talk about or project out how easy or hard any game looks at this point.
FUWolfpacker. It wasn’t directed at you man. Just a light-hearted post with Sad Din because he essentially said “good, that puts them at 7th”.

No worries. Just beat Wofford.

See evidence here . —- One thing we should know. I am is VERY VERY CAREFUL about my posts and references—-

Wofford got huge news today as Maximus Pulley and CJ Coombes are both coming back to Wofford after being in the portal. Wofford's defense should be solid again heading into next year.
anything that helps woofy come in 7th place again next year is A-OK with SD.

It's hard to know how the coaching staff evaluated the DBs after the season. We were very young in the defensive backfield and lost a lot of guys to injury and graduation.

One positive takeaway from the season was we found out Billy Lewis can objectively play. He had a strong season as a freshman and gave off some Hugh Ryan "dude is everywhere" vibes. I do not think anyone will be wringing their hands if we go into next season with Lewis and Caleb Williams at safety with Tre McLeod in the mix.

Assuming AK Burrell and Justin Hartwell return from injury in top form, we should have more flexibility at SPUR. Burrell I suspect could play both Safety or SPUR, but with Lewis' emergence, his highest utility may be at SPUR.

My guess is these new transfers are going to help fill out the depth chart at corner with Moson, Dalton, and a the surprising Javaris Jones. Both guys looked to be well respected (I think Abraham was team captain) and high IQ players.

As far as SPUR, it will be interesting to see the development there. By season's end, we appeared to be primarily using Achina, a more prototypical outside linebacker, and Jones, a more prototypical nickel corner at the position depending on personnel and game situation.

I had neglected to notice, but some of what feels like a more public involvement in the transfer portal comes with changes starting this year.

- the NLI window for high school players is earlier. That should create pressure for the high school kids to go ahead and sign, knowing the transfer portal window opens immediately after.

- The portal opens earlier and for a shorter period of time.

- Players can sign through and be bound without having to first enroll. I think we are now seeing public commitments from transfers in December, whereas we used to see Furman announce them sometime in the summer.

So, globally, I suppose the thinking has to be recruit your high school class, get them signed, recruit a portal group, get them signed, and then try to finish out the class before February.
