Reach NIL..."Our Guy".
Feels a bit like one of those "agents" that might be shopping around players.

I don't make people's decisions for them, but going an 0-12 MAC school to play football in 25 degrees on a Tuesday night in front of 7,000 fans feels like an odd move.

Not sure but I don’t think FU has ever hit the portal this hard. I guess the coaches know we need help and are making the effort.
Certainly are being more open about those efforts this year. Perhaps trying to drive scarcity with more public offers.

I think at the core, Furman wants to build through development of high school players. At the same time, the fundamentals of the sport are changing.
You can't build and develop players that pack up their toys and move schools every year.

I've not attended any practices, so I have no idea if our coaches and too tough. But show me another team with kinder, gentler coaches who are under less pressure to win, and you'll not find a championship mindset. If they think of any FCS or FBS championship caliber team or even an FBS team with only bowl aspirations (6 wins) without a coaching staff that demands the best from its players, let them go. Those coaches' livelihood depends on the performance of those players.
There is NO WAY that the coaches on this team is as tough or as disciplined as the ones we had. The entire spectrum of how to coach has changed so dramatically, the coaches are not allowed to coach like that in today's world. Discipline can still be done but in a different style. if the prima donnas can't handle it, how successful do you think they will be down the road in real life situations??

Aw...c'mon - with Hyman, Pettus, and Johnson, our Defensive guys were over there getting in touch with their feelings, being their authentic selves, using their platforms, and living their best lives.

We Offensive Players, though, did have to suffer under the sadistic oppression of Caldwell, Cain, and Satterfield that you describe.

Seems like we need a thread for the not-so-good-ole-days and possums.
...and Finns.

Never forget the Finns.

Just was searching through some of this stuff, and came upon Mercer's NIL policy. I assume this is probably a fairly standard policy.

https://mercerbears.com/sports/2021/7/7 ... px?id=1286

I thought this provision was interesting:
Student-athletes may secure representation (e.g., agent or lawyer) ONLY for name, image and likeness and NOT for future professional athletic contract negotiations. Student-athletes cannot enter into any such written or oral agreements for name, image and likeness before July 1, 2021.
So, you can get an agent, but only for NIL (I'm still not entirely sure what that is). The agent cannot be for a professional contract, however.

It's an interesting thought experiment. An agent can be hired, but only for ensuring an amateur athlete can make money in conjunction with playing football. The agent cannot be hired, however, to ensure that an amateur athlete can enter into a contract where he'll get paid money to play football.
