I believe he is the only Furman transfer that has reported an offer to this point as well. Northwestern State, which hasn't won a game since 2022 I believe, offered him. Certainly closer to home though.

Portal officially opens today. Chaos season is upon us. Will be interesting to see the number of total athletes in the portal this year. There was still a possible threat about 2 time non-grad transfers maybe having to sit a year last year I think. Without that this year, it wouldn't surprise me if the numbers were higher. We'll see if the revenue sharing keeps some players at their FBS schools I suppose.

Good point. Rev share going to keep a lo of FBS from portaling to FCS.

I got this info from a parent of one of the players that has hit the portal so you can take it for what it is worth. Saying that the players are entering the portal because of the "negative" attitude in the program and that the coaches were too hard on them. As for my two cents on this, NO SH*T there is a negative attitude when you have the kind of season FU had. It is not the norm and you fight and train to get better. Just like me and my teammates did after the 1979 season and won the SOCON title 5 out of the next 6 years!! The coaches too tough on them? Well, there is no doubt that the players of today are not as mentally tough and I know that one player of the past was going to leave FU for the same reason but ended up being a two time all conference player! He didn't think the coaches were too tough then!! Today's players are coddled, spoiled and in most cases are told they are better than they actually are as players. Good luck to those that have entered the portal and let's see how it goes at a school that has a more gentle way of coaching!!

Agree with HKB60! Give me a friggin break about negativity and tough coaching. WTH, it's football! Maybe that's why we were 3-8, too many cream puffs.

I mean, most all of us chose Furman for our academic careers when we could have selected far easier universities to navigate through.

HKB60 is spot on. I couldn't state it any better. Maybe we're just old grumpy guys opining for the good old days. However, in my opinion the portal is an anathema to what college football is (or used to be ) all about. Facing adversity and working through it for 4-5 years as a team. Usually the result is life long relationships that transcend anything that transpired on the gridiron. My freshman year I hated Furman. I was invisible to the coaches and was miserable on the bench. Trust me, my 18 year old immature self would have likely hit the escape button if it existed back then. But thank God it didn't. I stuck it out and it worked out fantastic... 3 rings and blessed with the best lifelong friends on earth. I'm afraid that many of todays players attending 2-3-4 schools are going to walk away with much less.

While I agree with sentiment of HKB60 post, I also think it is BS. I think there is maybe one player in the portal because the coaches were tough on him and I am not altogether sure that it had to do with on the field stuff.

I do think CCH is dead set on maintaining a certain mindset on and off the field. It might not be for everybody. But it is how Furman rolls.

The portal tells players it's all about them, the money backs that up for some. No such thing as team

I'll say it again. Where does academic standing/progress play into all this? It is COLLEGE football. At least for now.

I've not attended any practices, so I have no idea if our coaches and too tough. But show me another team with kinder, gentler coaches who are under less pressure to win, and you'll not find a championship mindset. If they think of any FCS or FBS championship caliber team or even an FBS team with only bowl aspirations (6 wins) without a coaching staff that demands the best from its players, let them go. Those coaches' livelihood depends on the performance of those players.

I still am reminded of Hendrix pre-season comments that this team was a lot more physical in preseason practice, in large part due to the need to rely on much younger players who had less game-like experience.

While I wonder whether the coaches, after a season with a number of injuries, would do that again, but I also wonder if for some players, practice was a lot tougher and more physical than what they experienced last year.

I loathe the NCAA. We are watching the slow death of college sports, especially for schools like Furman.
