In terms of speed, I can think of maybe a small handful of guys in FCS competition where I thought we just couldn't run with a guy in the open field - Davon Fowlkes (App State), Jayson Foster (GSU), Randy Moss (Marshall), and Demond Reid (WCU) come to mind.

By and large, we hold up fine in terms of speed.

I also don't worry much about having a more mobile QB. Plenty of teams do just fine on offense without the QB taking off.

I came to Furman on a partial scholarship, and one reason was i ran a 4.9 as a running back. I was pretty stout but not real fast.
My sophomore year I ran 2 4.6s in the pre camp test and stayed there the next 3 years. I was not able to ever get a 4.5, but speed was now an asset for me.
Great strides can be made between being 18 years old and 19 or 20- big changes.
Once again, we should all stay inside our circle of competence.

Terrel Owen’s ran a 4.38 ( !!!!!! ) at 48 years old. FORTY EIGHT years old. I doubt we kept up with him. Don’t know. Don’t recall

After watching how well the Georgia Tech QB ran the ball last night, and watching Clemson and South Carolina QB’s run/escape so well today, an athletically talented QB that can move creates fits for defenses.

Tyler was a nightmare for our opponents.

This. SO MUCH THIS. Sure some teams “do fine” without an athletic running QB. But they are overcoming the deficit. It’s 10 on offense vs 11 on defense when your QB only drops back to throw. If he can run (see Gamecocks winning play!!!) it’s 11 vs 11 and forces either a spy and thus a “wasted” defender or a ton of pressure on a defense. It’s an extra thing to account for on the defense. One more thing to worry about.

A QB who will take off creates tremendous problems for the D. It’s part of the reason USC (Gamecocks) have 8:wins now in the SEC !!!

Georgia Tech essentially runs a modernized single wing offense. Sure, the QB can run. But in that offense, the QB acts as a running back who throws.

King also takes a lot of hits. He's missed chunks of several season over his career with injuries. That's the risk you take with that offense - the QB is going to get banged around. If you recall, Tyler Huff also missed several critical games with injuries.

If that was the offense our coaches are trying to run, that's not the type of player they are recruiting. My guess is we'd rather have a QB that can move around a bit, but is not looking to be a heavy run threat. Remember, Trey Hedden ran track in high school. I'm sure he can run, he may just not be asked to.

True. But our 2 best years in the past 15 years we had a great running QB. I don’t think that’s coincidence. Just a thought
