Do feel foul for the, possibly, 10,000 student athletes whose lives will be completely disrupted as a result of all of this litigation.

But, hey, you wanted it. Screw those 10,000 kids !
As far as outside donors influencing university staff, to me this is old news; but now they can show their faces.
The difference now is the, from-the-debbil, collectives.

Before - “Oh well, he did give millions, but there are plenty of other car dealers out there who would like to have a relationship with ol’ Whattsamatta U”

Now - “HOLY JOCKSNIFFERS, BATMAN! This cat has raised almost 2 gazillion samolians for us to pay our players’ salaries! Because of this, he now has a huge influence over all of our major donors and direct relationships with all of our student athletes and their families. He’s the guy who signs their million dollar paychecks. And he’s now threatening to stop paying them if we don’t start his Freshman daughter at QB this weekend and hire his 16 year old son as our Head Coach. … …. …. …” …. … .. … “OK, go fire Coach BeenHereForDecades, get the kid an Employee badge, and go by the Zeta House and tell his daughter to warm up her arm.”

Does the phrase Academic Eligibility apply at all anymore. Is going to class still a requirement?
No not really if any are still going to class it won’t be long before it is no longer a requirement.

AND…Why the heck would an organization made up of multiple organizations trying to maximize their revenues, force the personnel who are solely responsible (we’ve been told) for generating all of their revenues to ‘retire’ after only 4 or 5 years of employment? That would be insanity for any business. Years of eligibility limits run counter to EVERYTHING we are seeing in college athletics these days. And, if those from-the-debbil collectives can raise enuf kwan, these amazing revenue generators will be paid more for wearing the Crimson & Caramel of Whatsamatta U than they can make in other Professional Leagues.

Think Ingle Martin still has his arm-cannon? We can get him back on the field in Paladin Stadium next season.

Never was at UNC. read the book written by their OWN PROFESSORS !!!

https://www.amazon.com/Cheated-Scandal- ... 1612347282

Sad part is I have a great friend with a UNC degree -and she hates that this undermines all who have a UNC degree. By association.

I’ll share that another friend who is an attorney here in Greenville - big one - has a UNC undergrad and was in the AFAM classes where most of this took place (he took AFAM as elective) and professor literally told them “everyone gets an A. REGARDLESS of what you do. “. Wanting a legit degree and to become an attorney he immediately dropped the AFAM course.

This will be happening at most P5 & G5 schools, FUBeAR believes …

Now, most of these kids will be the bottom 25-30 or so kids on their rosters, which means 99% of them cannot play at the FCS level, but 100% of them will believe they can. And, most of them will actually be real students, so we might be able to get them in school and they could be successful academically at FU.

But … 1% is 3 kids who might be able to help FU … or another FCS program. FUBeAR is certain our Coaches and Staff will be all over this. It’s Diamond in the rough mining time and nobody does <F>’s better than we do. Looking forward to see if this 1 aspect of all of the court-determined insanity that has and/or may negatively impact FCS Football can provide us with some benefit.
So, could these bottom 25-30 finally realize D2 is their best option. Could that then push some good D2 players out the top to FCS.Many moving parts.

Couldn't the bottom 25-30 drop to FCS instead of D2?

That's panic talk. One dude in Hawaii doing something does mot mean it makes sense to anyone else.
It would be disappointing to throw a MIL at something just to see the head chopped off though.
No reason was given for the firing, and that is probably the sticking point.

So far, none of the "gloom and doom" predicted has appeared.
What happened instead was a disenfranchised QB left Furman with no NIL deal and became a super star at GA state.
That was good for the player, who got ran off by the whines of "outsiders".

Generally…

Most FBS backups could be 1’s or 2’s at FCS programs
Most FBS 3’s could be 2’s or 3’s at FCS programs
Most FBS less than 3’s would be 3’s or could not play at FCS programs

So…if they are not in the Top 70-80 Players on an FBS squad, they aren’t going to be much help to a solid FCS program like FU.

This could change in the future as scholarship limits are eliminated and FBS Teams ‘hoard’ 105 scholarship-worthy Players on their rosters instead of the 85 scholarship worthy + 45-ish walk-on’s they have on their rosters today.

There ARE exceptions - Chatt’s Chase Artopoeus, for example, was a walk-on @ UCLA and never threw a pass in a game for the Bruins in 4 years on their roster. He CAN obviously play … when not injured.

Gotta pan thru the rubble of 5,000 - 6,000 Players that are gonna be cut from FBS rosters and grab ‘our share’ - the 4 or 5 of the 500-600 who can actually play FCS Football AND get in FU AND succeed academically at FU.

Thinking about it would make more sense if you had even the slightness chance of changing the reality.
Honestly, you're on the bow spitting into gale force winds.

I don't honestly think that any of the cuts from a program like Clemson are going to be able to impact Furman's roster.

They are going to keep the walk ons who matter, who are not just life time scout team guys but who if they ever had to put in a game would a) know what to do and b) could actually block someone or catch it or tackle someone.

The guys that are getting cut are probably a mix of PWO misses, donors kids, and kids who are friends of the staff. These are not guys we want really.

Look at Clemson roster walk ons. Ellis Johnson's grandson is a walk on WR. You have guys from Mountain Brook High in Bham, 5-9 170 WR. Clearly a Dabo buddy. You have a lineman from Anderson who is 6-3. We'd prefer longer. There is a RB from Sumter who I think is nephew of a big donor. He will stay there and graduate. I think they have Bo Nix's cousin at S, probably a favor to Patrick Nix who is still a HC in Phenix City AL which is great recruiting territory.

But maybe kids like Banks Pope, who was committed to App, offered by Furman, went PWO at Clemson... possible he could come to us if they cut him. But my point about these kids is... He is probably Safe. He'll be one of the 20 they keep because he is D1A good.

So, I think the problem will be we won't want the 15 or so cuts because they are not really D1 Players. They are favors. The 20 they keep are the players.

If FUBeAR ciphered correctly, there are 136 Tiggers on their current roster. So, 31 gotta go.

90% of those (~27), as you noted with the 5 you called out, probably wouldn’t be able to play at Furman.

But ~3 of them probably can. Maybe that 6-3 lineman…

Not to go off on a tangent but... those smarter than me might know, but I think that with the transition into a more "Oregon" style offense, and the need for more pass blocking, we are trying to recruit "longer" linemen with bigger wingspans, more in the 6-4 6-5 range IF we can get them. 6-3 maybe if they have long arms. Theory is if they are wrong, they at least of the physical attributes to still get their hands on a rusher and "be right even if they are wrong."

if you look at the current roster FR and SO, we have had recent takes at:
6-3 (looks like a walk on, don't see his name in the signing class releases)
6-4 (2)
6-5 (3)
6-7 (!)

We had 2 shorter guys in 22 who look like they are gone.

if you look at FUWolfpackers recruiting thread, we DO have a commit this class who is 6-2 but the other 2 are 6-4 and 6-6. and Offers, we had 6-2, 6-4, 6-7. So...

The trend line here is clearly "longer."
