I hope Kelvin McNight has a lot of success at the pro level, but he did play in a prolific, pass-happy, spread offense at Samford. Throw him into the Furman offense and I imagine he might have only caught half as many balls. The Jackal wrote: ↑Wed Jan 23, 2019 1:18 pmI mean, I think the last 25 years of Furman football proves you wrong. But you can believe what you want.Paladin91 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 23, 2019 1:02 pmAgain, you're totally out of context. 10 or 20 lbs on a WR matters when you have to block on the edges for the run game or set up a screen - it's not just the receiving end. And no sense in singling out receivers, talking about the group as a whole vs past units. Again, noticeably smaller.Yadkin wrote: ↑Wed Jan 23, 2019 12:05 pmYeah Jackal, the loss of two inches and 20 pounds in last year's starter (Burnett) vs. his likely replacement (DeLuca) is a complete game changer as far as our receiving corps goes. Can't you see that? There goes the passing game. No more fade route TD passes in the corner of the end zone (OK, never happened... I'm dreaming). Never mind DeLuca made one of the best moves of any Paladin WR last fall with his 24-yard 2H TD catch vs. Mercer. Guess we'll now run the wishbone since our passing game has no chance of succeeding. Good grief.
Incidentally, the hands-down best WR in the SoCon last season is listed at 5'8 185. That guy will likely get cracks at NFL rosters.
I don't know how the last 25 yrs has proved me wrong. We've had some decent receivers, but none have stuck at the NFL level. I think the last WR that got serious consideration at the NFL level was RJ Webb with the Panthers - and he was 6'2, 205, which again supports my point.
