Cam was a good player, last season he didn't have the season many of us expected. So, I'm not sure it's a 'big loss.'
As far as size goes as other's have mentioned Furman's passing game is not traditional.

We will start the season with:
Gordon 6-0 174
DeLuca 6-0 177
Bell 5-9 160
Armstrong 6-1 190
add two highly regarded redshirts
Hall 6-0 180
Peterson 6-2 180

Then you have the tight end position which in Furman's case is a hybrid position

and we might be adding incoming freshman McCormick at TE; 6-2 218 in the mix.

You also have three very good tailbacks that can catch the ball, Morehead was used quite often when healthy as a receiver. Maples appears to have the ability to catch the ball too.

And we still have the Feb signing date to go Furman has some offers out there for a WR. Based on tweets I'm confident Wayne Anderson, Jr is the committed player from Texas. Anderson catches the ball really well and gives Furman a solid three-back tailback rotation with Morehead being the specialty back.

All that said lots of moving pieces that fit the Furman scheme IMO.

I think this is the root of why he left. In the system that we run, things that he was good at didn't fit what we wanted to do. Couple that with how we use our tight ends and running backs, and it just wasn't a good marriage. I received some push back on here earlier in the season when i said from the players perspective the QB best option in order was Harris, Darren, Jamar, and then Hamp. It played out that i wasn't wrong. I will probably get more push back on this, but if you ask any player on the team it was no doubt who the most talented receiver on the team was. Again not who fit the system best, but who was the most talented. I wish him well and have nothing bad to say about him.

A “talent” poll is one thing but so is an “attitude” poll. A higher register on the latter is as important, if not more crucial than the former.

Fade routes are the least efficient , most overrated, lowest yielding, ego-driven play calls in the sport.

No question that Cam is a very talented pass catcher. The system is the thing though and this one is not very good for players looking to put up big numbers. We spread it around too much for any one guy to get a lot. He may well turn it to be a big time receiver at a place that runs a pro style offense. I hope he finds it. It would be funny if he winds up at Wofford where they throw it once a month or so.

Did you noticeably leave off Logan McCarter - 6'2 and Andy Shumpert - 6'5, who was a TE but used more as a receiver. But regardless, our receivers are small both height wise and weight wise.

Tell that to Calvin Johnson or Randy Moss. And actually the fade route (among 21 red zone passing routes) has the third highest TD rate (corner and seam are 1 and 2), and has a lower INT rate than the top 2.
