Right. With NIL and portal stealing future Pegues from the SoCon ( equally from each team like Achor Achor)… best can hope is win SoCon and get to dance. MAYBE win a madness game every 10 years at best?Affirm wrote: ↑Tue Oct 15, 2024 3:55 pmThe only mindset worth having is that we just do the best we can.FU Hoopla wrote: ↑Tue Oct 15, 2024 3:36 pmAffirm wrote: ↑Tue Oct 15, 2024 3:28 pmTrying to imagine what is realistically possible, considering what I know and considering what is stated by the posters after you in this thread other than the one (you again) that just entered a big "100" whatever that means.FurmanFan23 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 15, 2024 9:01 amThe past ten years have been great! We celebrate our past and we look forward to our future...
Regardless of what is considered most 'realistically' possible ect., the only mindset worth having is that there is no limit to what can be achieved...
That does not mean we abandon having goals that a realistic.
It is vitally important to have goals that are realistic.
What is realistic IS an important and valid question.
So, considering everything known and expected, including the impact of NIL and of conference alignments and likely power conference consolidations, what realistically the best can we can do?
Are we left to just dream and wonder, with no realism inserted into what is predictable for the coming 10 years?
Yes?
No?
I really want to know what people think - not about the fact that I am asking these question, but what, if any, considered answers to these questions there may be, beyond trite sayings and platitudes.

I basically used '10 years ago' because that is when we had that awful record and then made the surprise run to the SoCon Championship game which kinda sparked the program moving forward...
Sure - but Bob McKillop's BEST Davidson team.. the one with Steph Curry - would have been poached a year or two earlier (Steph woulda gone to Duke or UNC or UK wherever for $$) in all likelihood and never made that run to the elite eight.soconjohn wrote: ↑Wed Oct 16, 2024 7:44 amAs long as Furman has the best coach in the league, they'll be good year-in and year-out...I'm still waiting for some of those Bob McKillop coached Davidson teams to be bad...It's not going to happen lol...The degree of good, however, is dependent on important details, but the coach is good enough to put you close to the top of the mountain each season...Getting back to the peak of it is the inexact science, however....That's all players, and in basketball at our level, it usually has everything to do with how you defend.

Not a guarantee, Steph was only a Sophomore when they went to the elite eight...
What is more interesting is that Davidson is 0-11 in the other most recent 11 NCAA tourney games they have played outside of that elite eight season...

- Beating #8 ranked Villanova and get ranked in the AP Top 25 poll

- Getting a player drafted into the NBA
- Getting the full renovation of Timmons Arena on track for completion in 12 months
- Keeping the head coach that has been apart of all of that (Bob Richey) on board
You would have thought I was crazy!
Funny but NOT funny. clearly Bennett left becuase he was sick of NIL; it won't be the last - "Virginia basketball coach Tony Bennett explains his stunning retirement: "I don't think I'm equipped in this new way to coach"FU Hoopla wrote: ↑Fri Oct 18, 2024 10:52 amFU Hoopla wrote: ↑Mon Oct 14, 2024 4:37 pmIf I would have told you 10 years ago Furman Basketball was on its way to:

Commendable, but misguided and highly unlikely
Fentanyl is the NCAAA…raping college sports. FU BBall is morphing into Auburn’s JV team. Anytime we get a good player or two we are going to get poached $$ is the new name of the game And we are a bunch of broke back Paladins with a lack of leadership at the top.
