Back w more. Just notes

1-1 FCS.

Lost to West Georgia
Beat Alabama State

What does that mean? Who knows except they aren’t great.

If we want anything near a good year we MUST win this one. Many harder games after this

They may the easiest SoCon team outside of VMI. NOT TO BE TAKEN LIGHTLY. just saying my initial read is they are ok but bottom tier SoCon

They did have an off week last week which I don’t like. That adds variance and they weren’t playing well. I generally see it as advantage because two weeks to study our plays

There's probably no team I enjoy beating more than Samford. They aren't a rival by any means, it's just satisfactory.

Samford probably isn't as good as they were last year. The one area that gives me pause with them is that their QB, Crittendon, is a pretty good runner and we just got chewed up by a running quarterback.

This is spot on. It’s not just talent and coaching. It’s MATCHUPS. Just like basketball. Some teams are a bad matchup.

What is very helpful is we just saw how we couldn’t handle this same issue vs WM so we have no real excuse to not fix it or at least mitigate it with another week where I am sure this will be a BIG FOCUS.

DANG. I’m still not over the 384 rushing yards to 80. Really asking. When is the last time ANY team rushed for 300 MORE yards than us. ??? I don’t know of that happening even vs FBS.

I’d still love to see us mix up the OL a little. Sometimes you see some things if you take a series from the sidelines.

Why not look it up?

Furman surrendered 400 yards rushing to Wofford in 2015. It's literally in the game notes.

Jackal and FUBeAR. Yeah. Kinda. I know. Easy to get “ When is the last time Furman surrendered X yards”. I look at the game notes.

But doesn’t list DIFFERENCE in rushing between us and them. The DIFFERENCE. . Which is what I am seeking. When we were OUT-gained by 300 yards rushing.

Let me go look at those though - I TRULY APPRECIATE THE HELP. I guess I’ll have to manually look at our success in those games to get the DIFFERENCE I seek

EDIT. YEP. THANK YOU. Woff 417 … Furman 109. Dammmit. That’s a 300 yard DIFFERENCE. I want to beat those dudes

FYI. We went 4-7 and 2-5 that year

I checked out UWG's roster, and about 70% of the team were transfers from FBS programs, with about 15 of those coming from Power 5 schools. So I would not judge Samford poorly from this game.

FUBeAR is strange. He likes to analyze Football Rosters in some depth…

West Georgia - 100 Players on roster

Transfers = 51
FBS Transfers = 18
FBS P5 Transfers = 7
FBS G5 Transfers = 11
FCS Transfers = 18
Lower Level / Other Transfers* = 15

* Counting FCS Non-Scholarship (n=2) as Lower Level

Y’all will have to calculate those percentages your own selves. FUBeAR doesn’t math.

Expect rain on Saturday. The weather geeks say rain thursday and friday, none Saturday, but we all know this will change as they never get it right this far in advance.

About Us

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage

GoPaladins.com is not affiliated with Furman University or its athletics programs.
