FU comes in at #30 still way behind Lamar and IWord. 5 teams finished in the top 25 with 5 or 6 losses. Very doubtful we start the 2019 season in the top 25 which is big. Final coaches poll is out but it is as usual a joke. FU did not even get a vote.

The lesson I learned this season: Don't lose big leads in Johnson City.

Hard to really describe how much that game screwed things up.
Yep I remember saying that night that it would come back to haunt us. Just didn't realize how much. It will carry over into next year.

With a nod toward poetic numerology, FUBeAR ranked the Furman Paladins at #13 in his Final AGS Poll. AGS voters overall had FU at #27.

In other news, I think we all do have to admit that Furman is, in fact, not quite as good as Alabama: 48-7 < 44-16.

Yep at least we will be part of history(little bit) one of 15 victims for the first team to go 15-0. It started with Furman and ended with Alabama. At least we will be on their NC tee shirts, LOL. We sometimes fuss about our play calling but I have never seen a worst play calling game than Alabama tonight. Ex: Tua threw for 150 yds and Alabama scored 14 early points. Inside the 20 they start running the ball and don't score. He threw 2 passes in the second quarter. Even to start the 4th quarter down 28 at the 5 they run 3 straight times and not only don't score but take 2.5 mins off the clock.

Unlike Dabos errant claim "little old Clemson" (with their 50 MILLION football spending recently including a putt putt course in the new construction etc etc ) is NOT the first team to go 15-0. Yale went 16-0 way back in 1890s.

Sad that I know more than Dabo. Another Northern team went 15-0 in 1890s too

I saw that stat. It's not an accurate one. I mean, North Dakota State went 15-0 just a few days ago.

You know more than Dabo? Maybe you should be a head coach. It’s awesome that Dabo said his joy comes from focusing on Jesus, others, and then yourself. How can anyone not pull for a man like Dabo. He is an awesome leader of young men. I appreciate that he can given lots of time to Coach Richey.

Their world (the power 5 conference coaches) doesn't extend beyond their little cocoon. In addition to N. Dakota State, I'm pretty sure Mount Union and other D-II or D-III teams have gone 15-0. I'm pretty sure he actually thinks Clemson is the first college football team (in any division) to go 15-0, because that's what the media has fed him. Fact: Clemson is the first power 5 conference team to go 15-0. Somebody needs to tell him that.

I think that feat has been done at least four times in the FCS - Georgia Southern, Marshall, and NDSU twice.

It was sort of qualified later by saying "major college football" or something, but even that is subjective - what's your definition of "major college football." Even then, comparing Clemson to the 1897 Penn football team (who went 15-0) doesn't seem to fit that narrative.

I cannot remember what he said, but I also think Swinney said something similarly uniformed during his pre-Furman press conference. Like one of the SID types at Clemson just hands him a talking point without thinking about whether it was true. I mean, a D1 team went 15-0 like two days ago.

Dabo knows football. I'm no Tiger fan but what he has done at Clemson is awesome. If you don't believe me, ask Nick Saban.

Somebody did...well, he told ESPN SportsCenter, at least.

The only way to keep this from happening again is to win, and win a lot. The SoCon gets zero respect, so we need to go 10-1 or 9-2 next year to have any real shot at competing for a title. Even at 7-4 or 8-3, we will get shipped to NDSU second round. Have to be ranked high enough to avoid that.

Yall. The 15-0 thing is referring to “the first team in the playoff era,” not all of football or all of D1. Not all playoffs either. Just the new 4 team playoff. That’s why the teams from the late 1800s don’t count, and why NDSU doesn’t count. They put up a graphic during the game giving credit to Yale and Penn.

Back to the topic at hand. I don’t see Furman moving into the top 25 without have an incumbent QB. Puts more pressure on those first few games to get wins so we don’t fall out of sight in the rankings. It’s been too much to overcome the last two years hoping for at large bids on the bubble.

I don't know if an incumbent QB matters so much as early wins. Furman has started off slowly the last two years and really cannot afford to do that again. Perception matters a great deal.

Illinois State is a good example. The Redbirds finished 6-5, but stayed in the top 25 every week except for the final week of the season. They started off ranked, got a boost early from some wins, went into the top 10 twice, and then finally fell out of the poll with four straight losses.

Furman started off at No. 23, but played the FBS national champs and two playoff teams to start the season. They fell out of the rankings and never climbed back into the top 25 despite winning 6 of their last 7.
