If Richey wants the CoC job then he's a goner soon regardless, because that's not a particularly great gig. Weaker conference than the SoCon, better support and pay, but still. More of a lateral stepping stone.

Also not helpful for recruiting players to Furman, so he probably would have declined the interview if he didn't want out. Not a ringing endorsement for the paladins future prospects.

And yes it does point towards the idea that Richey's loyalty talk is a tactic rather than something he actually believes.
SD thinks this is a little rough on CBR. CBR has been with Dins for a long time. He could have easily left last year

All Dins fans thought he would eventually leave. Its not every year that a job comes open that is attractive. If CofC is one of those attractive one them he has to try. He is from Florence, worked at CHasn South, CoFC had great facility and CHasn is not a bad place to work
Don't breathe in when the tide goes out.
Yep he forgot to mention the stinch of Charleston. Like living in a toliet.

A year ago FU basketball was on top of the world and looked like it was poised for long term success. Fast forward a year and the program is in shambles and appears to be poised to start from ground zero. Sad.

Such is the lay of land now in college sports, outside the top of the top....

Gannon made it to the D2 Elite Eight this year and finished 32-3 after being 3-23 last year.

It cuts both ways.

We travel to Charleston often. I guess I am lucky in that I have never experienced the stench that you speak of. It is a beautiful, but congested city.

Richey is basically saying that even with the renovated timmons, he can't win enough at Furman to get a big job like coaches from Wofford and ETSU recently did.

It's very hard to square that with what he's been telling Dan, fans, donors, etc., for years, up to the present day.

Possibly the worst scenario is that Richey doesn't get the CoC job and now has compromised the Furman program in the process.

For him personally, the other risk is that he doesn't win fast enough at CoC and his power conference prospects go cold, maybe forever. The fact he'd consider taking that risk reinforces the idea he's more or less desperate to get out from the FU job.

But wait… FUBeAR the Shortsighted was recently told, essentially, that he should feel this way…

“We all gain mutual benefit from the Players’ relationships with Furman, regardless of how long those relationships last or how they culminate academically. As long as we believe the individuals leave Furman as better Men & Women (in some way) and/or with real or perceived better short- and/or long-term opportunities in life (in some way), then we (fans and/or alums) should be pleased and fulfilled by the good work our school is doing for these few individuals and the good feelings those individuals gave us while they were associated with and ostensibly representing Furman.”

…when Furman Athletes depart or are considering departing prior to their expected departure date.

Should we not feel just as ooey-gooey when Furman Coaches depart or are considering departing - regardless of any prior expressions of commitment or loyalty?
Yep, uffp false sanctimony, nothing like it. Folks need to purple up.

Let’s keep in mind that there is zero factual evidence of Coach Richey interviewing for the Charleston job. It’s all rumors.

In any case, let’s not attack or hate CBR if he is looking into the Charleston job.
I would not blame him.
Charleston is a great place.
CofC is a great school.
And basketball is THE signature sport at CofC.
The city identifies with CofC basketball.
Maybe CBR would be glad to not have the school he coaches at being distracted by and sharing major resources and attention with football.
And if he wants to experience college football, he can just hop over to The Citadel or Charleston Southern University whenever.
I do think traffic in all Charleston will get worse once they start replacing that bridge from North Charleston to Mount Pleasant; but by the time that happens, CBR may have already moved on up to an even bigger and even more lucrative coaching position someplace else.

Players and Coaches now-a-days throwing out the 'god's plan' BS, it get's a little annoying, we all know what that truly means...

Well, it IS funny that God always seems to "lead" coaches in the direction of bigger $$$.

I knew it was only a matter of time until Football was cited as the root cause of Furman's BB issues.

Affirm, you nailed it.

First of all you’re quoting your own summary of my post Lol that was you that said that not me. And I think you totally missed my point. I was in no way saying I’m happy about the players transferring or would be happy about Bob leaving. My point was in response to YOUR post about not even wanting to be a fan of furman or furman “laundry” as you put it. I am devastated by the player losses and am praying to god we don’t lose richey. I was simply saying we can be fans of furman just cause more players might start transferring up before they graduate

About Us

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage

GoPaladins.com is not affiliated with Furman University or its athletics programs.
