Correct. Artis played at Gardner-Webb for Eddie Holbrook and at Jacksonville for Joe Williams. Artis is also the answer to the question of who was the #1 pick in the NBA ABA dispersal draft when the ABA disbanded. (David Thompson's team was joining the NBA, so DT was ineligible for the draft.) On a personal note, I saw Artis play in person for the Chicago Bulls and he was a gigantic man.
However, the biggest human whom I have ever seen is Geoff Crompton from UNC whose hand I shook when I was 13. Speaking of Artis Gilmore, I was at the Mideast Regionals in 1970 when JU made their playoff debut. I went with a friend who was a JU fan. After the game we talked our way into the locker room. Security back in the day was pretty lax. Always remember Artis walking out the shower with just a towel around his waist and reporters putting microphones in his face and Artis having a somewhat deer in head lights look on his face. I will agree with previous post Artis was a very very big man!
