I played in a top level NYC high school league where pressing was common - with all sorts of variations. We practiced against it every week. On a road game to a particularly intense rival, they picked us up when we were coming up out of the subway in the Bronx several blocks from their school. We laughed like crazy and beat them like a dirty rug. GO DINSFurmAlum wrote: ↑Tue Jan 23, 2024 10:19 pmI like Jasper's strategy. Get the ball up the court. Do not pass back and forth upteen times and do not get trapped in the corner. I like us having 2 ball handing guards in the game at the same time ie Pegues and Whitt.
Also don't let the bigs be handling the ball in the backcourt.
I think we'll be just fine. Looking forward to a great game.
This logic helps moving past the press but hurts defending their big guy. I’m sure that’s what coaches have to contend with when playing Samford. Do you want to beat the press or defend the post?
The trick is when dude on the other team steps in to press you lower your shoulder and plant him. They will back off.Sad Din wrote: ↑Wed Jan 24, 2024 12:02 pmIMHO the trick to the press is not stopping during the inbounds and knowing where the outlets are. Seen some games and once the PG stops especially around mid-court its all over
This means that all three guards will have to handle the ball so they are not gassed.
