1) Message board chatter is meaningless to people who don't spend time on message boards. I'm sure the Montana players and coaches are taking this game plenty seriously, and I'm sure our players don't give 2 s---s about what their fans think.

Even Clay said in his post-game presser that we weren't going to out-talent anyone. We have to grind it out. So the observation about skill positions is shared by our own coaches.

2) Save for a lone Wofford win over Montana 16 years ago, the (current) SoCon's playoff performance against the likes of the Big Sky and Missouri Valley (and frankly, in general) in this new era of FCS has been pretty abysmal. They have every reason to be confident.

I believe our guys have great heads on their shoulders and a lot of grit and have every chance to give Montana fans more than they bargained for. But let's be real. It's going to take an incredible effort.
Yup. It will take an almost perfect game from us. Heard that straight from a player this week. Said we could win and he and the team thought we could... but privately he said we would have to be almost perfect... no margin for error from the film he saw.

If we score 20 point we win this game, there is no way that offense is going to go off on this years defense. If they get 17 points they should consider it a moral victory.

Montana’s Best Recruit ever says deuces before Furman comes to town. Can’t blame him. Quite a few RB’s peaced out instead of facing Furman’s D this season

Even the SID acting like the crowd is going to take Furman out of it.
Furman committed two false starts playing in front of 78,000 fans at South Carolina in September, far in a way the biggest crowd of the year for the Paladins. The second biggest? A 28-14 win over The Citadel at Paladin Stadium in front of 12,157.
and
Since the venue opened in 1986, the Griz are 37-7 against teams from back east, and 3-0 so far this season with wins over Butler (Indiana), and Ferris State (Michigan).

Sure we will be heavy underdogs. Will need to execute but there is also the “bounce of the ball”. Look at the Wofford game. I still have a good feeling about this game. I don’t buy the perfect game .

True our offense needs TD’s not just FG’s.

That would be a great take except for the fact that Iverson has seen exactly zero time running the ball this year except in garbage time when the Griz were killing teams. Nice try, though.

Fear knows no playing time. FUBeAR can’t help it if this one is wiser than the rest of the Griz RB’s. No worries though. There’s still time for the other RB’s to ‘strain a hammy’ In Thursday walk-thru or ‘roll an ankle’ in pre-game warmups.

I agree.

The offense is going to need to finish drives. I don't think we're going to be able to lay up field goals in this one and expect to win.

Defense is going to have to limit the explosive play. Keep the crowd out of it. Force them to earn every inch of ground.

About Us

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage
