Personally this game has that classic 'BIG' SoCon football game feel, win or lose this is the first time I've had this feeling going into a SoCon football game since App St. and GSU left the league in 2013, it's nice to have that feeling again ;)

Thomas practicing is big for Furman, I think.

It seemed like Furman was a little reluctant to run a lot of their two back stuff against Samford. Not sure how much of that was by design for the day or because we have gotten a lot thinner at running back.

It appeared Huff seemed to pick up a lot of the extra non-Roberto carries.

I actually liked the game strategy. I think for the first half of the season, we saw Furman run a lot of two back and tight sets that allow the defense to sort of pack in on us. Against Samford, Furman seemed to spread out and try to lighten the box against Roberto.

I have to wonder whether WCU fans are going to start a collection to get Dominic Roberto a graduation gift.

In 4 games against the Catamounts, Roberto has rushed (by my calculation) for 509 yards and 7 touchdowns. That comes out to 6.5 yards per carry and includes two games where he was a more rarely used depth chart guy.

Over the last two games alone, Roberto has hit WCU for 449 yards, 6 touchdowns, at a 9.15 yard per carry clip. Put another way, he's running for a first down essentially every time he touches it.

According to yesterday's press release, Roberto has broken into the top 10 all time Furman rushers with 2,508 yards. My math would indicate that over 20% of Roberto's rushing yards for his career have come just against Western Carolina.

We are playing a very talented team this Saturday. They probably have more breakaway talent than anyone we have faced in a while. Will be a big challenge and we will have to play our best to have a chance to win. Am confident we will prepare well and will see whether we can score the most points! Go Paladins!

I am in big agreement with FU HOOPLA's post above. It would be great to have 3 or 4 teams getting national recognition like the "old days" of the SOCON. Western had a huge game with UTC already and you guys will have another one with them in a few weeks. Even the FU vs MU game had ranked teams involved. Having showdowns that are more important than just the league standings is much more exciting.

Active message board. https://catamount.boards.net/thread/148 ... acy?page=1

Didn't take long to find the oh-so-cliche posts whining about our decades old FUATT cheer.

Maybe we should pass out shots to WCU fans this weekend :D

WCU was very fortunate to beat EKU and UTC, the fate of both those games was hanging much more in balance than our 'close' games against KSU and Samford..........

WCU was literally 2 plays away from being 3-3 and an afterthought ;)

Yes - the 2023 WCU Team is talented.

And…If “a while” means since Saturday, you are correct.

Smith, King, Rias, Jenkins, and Stanton have all proven to be definite breakaway threats. Also, Mercer and that SEC Team we played have a few Players with comparable “breakaway talent.”

Those Players all certainly compare favorably to Lee, White, Colombo, and Reid.

14 SoCon Championships goes on the road to meet up against 0 SoCon Championships

Come to think of it, WCU has accomplished so little at the SoCon & FCS level they may as well start billing this as David vs. Goliath on their social media accounts, because that's basically what it is in terms of program success ;)

The best QB in the SoCon, Huff is 10-0 at FU in SoCon starts, WINNER!

He was so dispirited during the Citadel post-game show. This should come as a most deserved morale-boost at the most opportune time! Go FU !!

WCU needs to understand this is not a 'battle for purple supremacy' as they like to call it, supremacy has already been established!
Will David slay Goliath this time, or will Goliath continue to dominate :D
