How can we as fans / alumni, best support Furman Men’s Basketball through this upcoming season and beyond; and how can we help to increase Furman’s ability to retain Coach Richey for as long as possible including at least one season and hopefully more than one season in the renovated Timmons?

Over the last 10 years, the college athletics landscape has changed drastically. Other than some transition almost 10 year ago, with App, GSU, Elon, Davidson, and CofC changing conferences, the SoCon has stayed relatively quiet (or constant, I guess). What's on the horizon for the SoCon and Furman's role in the conference?

Have we called every Power 6 school (SEC, ACC, BIG10, BIG12, PAC12, Big East) in the country to try and get a Basketball game scheduled for this season?

AND if no takers is this full proof that they all fear the DINS? ;)

Would really like an update on tbe basketball schedule with names and dates that we don’t know about. Will any games be at the Well besides Wofford? Greenville Invitational? Yes/No?

It's been a long time since Furman Football has been ranked this high in national pre-season polls. In an era where players have instantaneous access to all of the hype, how does Coach Hendrix keep his team focused on what's important?

We know what happened vs. Samford last year...and we are a SoCon Team playing Tennessee Tech at home...

Worst Call In the History of College Football
Sep 20, 2016

The catch/fumble/Defensive TD call was NOT overturned.

So...FUBeAR's question is...how can we ensure we don't get Officiating this bad on opening night?

Watching it again, that play isn't terribly different than what happened against Samford. Similar route. Similar throw. Similar screw up.

Difference, of course, is the Mercer player just dropped the ball. Samford's player caught it, and then had it taken from him before hitting the ground.

In both instances, the ruling was a catch. In neither instance did the offensive player actually catch the pass.

Perhaps the conference officiating committee should emphasize this play. Referees are typically looking at one area of the field, and it could be that line judges are just looking at the wrong thing. They don't see the non-catch in real time.

Of course, none of that explains overturning the call on replay and then overturning the overturn by misapplying a rule. That just made a bad call into a travesty of the game. If you are going to miss a call, just miss it and move on.

That was worse than the Samford debacle.
The initial call was worse because it was so obvious whereas the Samford/Furman play was unusual and a little difficult to see what had happened.

But with the whole replay/re-replay/rule twisting calamity that ensued following the initial call, the Samford/Furman call takes the crown from this TTU/Mercer debacle.

But…seriously…the real question is broader than FUBeAR originally posed. Let’s reframe it as …

What, if anything, has the SoCon done, besides terminating the primary perpetrator of last season’s Samford/Furman felonious theft, to improve the quality of Football Officiating?
