Prediction: Tennessee will play the defending National Champions of FCS in 2026.
To tell you the truth I like our chances this year with a proven veteran QB. Who knows who will be the startng QB in 2026, assuming it could be Carson Jones in his 5th season and 3rd as starting QB. Pure speculation.

Jones is from Maryville, Tennessee, about 20 miles from Knoxville.

Long way down the road, but could make for some good storylines.

If the cart is right here, I wonder how many miles back we'd have to look to find the horse.

SEC is deciding their future football scheduling model this week, including whether each team will be playing 8 conference games or 9 conference games. USC is hoping for 8 and UT is probably hoping for 9.

I'm definitely observing those proceedings through two lenses - a Furman fan and an SC fan. From a Furman fan POV, I want them to stay at 8 games so that schools like Furman can still benefit from those OOC matchups. From an SC fan, I'm split; I see where it could be more lucrative to play an additional SEC match-up and why it will feel more necessary once the conference expands again. It would also be nice if SC didn't have to play another SEC game every year, if we're being honest lol.

I'm mostly supporting the 8-game model, but if SEC goes to 9 games, it doesn't necessarily eliminate the possibility of FCS schools matching up with SEC schools. Think about it from SC's perspective - you'd have 9 SEC matchups plus an annual matchup with Clemson. You don't have to worry about your strength of schedule with 10 match-ups of that overall quality.

I think they’ll end up with whatever model makes them the most money.

Honestly, FCS schools need to be preparing for a world in which these “money games” are harder to come by.

I assume it will open up more opportunities for FCS/G5 games, which are not as lucrative. But as the major conferences become more insular, the G5 and FCS will likely end up playing more against one another.

I think FCS teams do not have anything to worry about for the foreseeable future. Even if they go to a 9 game conference they will be looking to have easier non returnable home games. Adding another conference game will make their schedules harder so they won’t be looking for a lot of tough ooc games.

My brother in Christ, I'll make and take all the Gamecock jokes there are ... but I will not take notes on dual allegiances from a dude who splits between Furman and Mercer. ;)

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage
