Welp…so far Saturday has been quite a bit less exciting than the prior 3 days.

Woffy dispatched Samford to the loser’s bracket fairly easily by a 10-3 score …

…and in a minor upset #4 seed UNCG just run-ruled & eliminated #2 seed Mercer 16-5 in the 8th.

UNCG to take on #3 Samford in the night game. FUBeAR thinks the Bulldogs will hang around and see if they can find a way to take 2 from the Tearyers tomorrow.

Disappointing end of the season for Mercer. The Bears, despite their 40 wins, never seemed to have enough Pitching, other than their outstanding closer, and the Defense was always shaky. If they failed to score a bunch a runs, they were going to find plenty of ways to lose - giving up 24 hits, as they did today, is one of those ways - a darn good one. Reckon has a Team ever won a college baseball game giving up 24 hits?. They will not receive an NCAA bid.

So we’ll pull for Samford or UNCG in the Finals because Woffy prolly will get a bid, without winning the SoCon Championship, since they made it to Sunday - rather see more SoCon Teams playing in the Post-Season than not - same feeling for all sports.

Things are looking bleak for Samford as they are now down 6-0 to the UNCG Spartans in the 6th.

Looks like the 2 SoCon schools without Football Programs - UNCG & Wofford - may be dueling it out for the Baseball Championship tomorrow.

Update - Yep - UNCG Spartans rub the Samford Bulldogs nose in it, 8-2, and send them home to Homewood. Hopefully, the Spartans will have enough left to also train the Tearyers tomorrow at Noon and then again 40 minutes after that one concludes.

Looks like it is the Tearyers to lose. Will be very surprised if uncg wins 2 on Sunday. Been a good week besides the SoCon tourney as my favorite teams were 4-0 against CU. Softball got eliminated 2 games to none and scored only one run in 2 games. Baseball lost 2 in a row 9-2 and 18-6 which should eliminate any chance they had at an-large bid but wouldn’t surprise me if they still get in. Something is wrong if a team finishes 12th in a 14 team league, 6 games under .500 in their league and still get an at-large bid.

They only need to win 1 now. Took the first 10-2. Tourney going the distance.

Truth.
“Truth” is a funny thing and kinda hard to separate from biased opinion and / or mere speculation and / or the Truth claimer’s personal agenda.

FUBeAR (and apaladin) were wrong. Wofford winning was not “Truth” (and, frankly, never should be). The UNCG Spartans neutered the Tearyers in 2 very quick snips today. Absolutely wiped the floor with the little baby pups in both games to win the SoCon Championship and advance to the NCAA Tournament.

Tearyers will still dance also, but 40-win Mercer will not (unless FUBeAR is wrong again).

FUBeAR was glad to be wrong today, but will pull for both Teams to win multiple NCAA Tourney games!

SEC ACC get 9 teams in.... SoCon 1

There should be a law
Coulda been 3 if Mercer hadn’t slumped down the stretch (injury ending Colby Thomas’ season hurt the Bears, but Pitching was still the bigger issue) and had run up their win total to 45 or so…AND… if just a few more auto-bids weren’t stolen (like UNCG ‘stole’ the SoCon bid), that would have enabled Wofford to get a bid.

So…almost 3, actually 1 - SoCon version of The Song Remains the Same…

I was pulling for Wofford to represent the SoCon. All they had to do was to win one game, just one stinking game. They not only lost both games, but did so in embarrassing form. They have no one to blame but themselves. I hate it for the 25 Wofford baseball fans.

Hard for peeps to travel, take time off during the week, so mostly parents. Will pick up this weeknd. WC is close but no help. Watched a couple of their home games with maybe 25 in the stands. Still they have baseball and FU doesn’t so advantage WC.

I watched some of the ACC tournament yesterday. Terrible attendance. Fans just don’t turn out for the conference tournaments.
