Seats on the near side are obviously not pulled out. Still bigger than the old and apparently new Timmons at 2,900. Here is a picture of the outside.

Yep - It was a temporary FEMA hurricane relief shelter with some added fascia to make it look permanent.

The capacity is still listed at 2,900, although their largest crowd of this year was 3,130. It is not bigger than Timmons.

Nothing funny about hurricane relief, but it is HILARIOUS (and disappointing) if we are comparing our venue to that of a school that renovated a former temporary hurricane relief shelter.

I think the reference to being a former shelter is supposed to be some kind of joke. I cannot find anything to points to that being true. But, if true, that is a good temporary use of the building. That is what happened at the Florida Gulf Coast arena.

So you’re saying that FUBeAR said something that that was a joke, and affirm fell for it?
Who can one trust these days?!
Please note, by the way, that I did not say it was not a great temporary use of the shelter by FAU; my comment about comparison had to do with Furman’s current and possibly future Timmons being compared in any way to a formerly temporary shelter.

Is his most recent "Ask The AD", JD said a school usually builds an indoor facility for roughly the size of its student body. Then he added FU is planning to increase its enrollment. That being the case, we should build for 3K at bare minimum.

Whatever we do is what we are going to live with for the next 25-30 years.
I know we are not in the business of sports. We are a SCHOOL. however, I would love it if we increased from just 2700 to 3000 students or so. It would make a little difference in attendance.

Hate to say it but that’s the way it is on campus. Not my opinion but the majority of students would rather do their homework than go to a Wenesday night game against VMI.
When I was a student I would've rather gone to an intramural game in the PAC between the Tri-Delts and the Chi-O's than do my homework. Homework sucks.

Our bigger venue for basketball on campus needs to be 5,500. Look at Davidson, Richmond, Charleston, Elon, High Point, and others.

Perfect opportunity for some "Friday Fun". Let's test JD the AD and his observation that the facility should be proportional to enrollment:
- Davidson enrollment: 1,975; Belk Arena: 5,295
- Richmond enrollment: 4,200; Robins center: 7,201
- Charleston enrollment: 11,620; TD Arena: 5,100
- Elon enrollment: 6,800; Schar Center: 5,100

So in the first two cases, basketball capacity is on average twice the enrollment. In the third case it's less than half, and in the final case it's a little less than even. Proportionality appears inconsistent. However we can conclude that in three out of the four cases capacity is in the low 5K range. I suggest we ignore the outlier (Richmond) as Furman will have The Well to absorb the high-capacity draw opponents.

Bottom line: using @affirm's four examples as a guide would suggest new-Timmons seating capacity much larger than FU 2,500 enrollment.
