One time 250,000 is not a significant amount of money relative to Furman University and the impact of a head coach.
Millions of dollars would be at stake in choosing his successor. We don't know which assistants could be elsewhere when Richey does move on, so it's impossible to say whether there will be an obvious selection or not.

Very different situation. Kelsey's track record is an issue with power programs. He's being paid market rate.
Even with a big raise, Richey is still under his market. So there's no chance a competent agent would accept a high buyout in his situation. Furman has zero leverage against Richey.
Great interview. Coach confirmed everyone coming back next year will have at least 2 years eligibility.
We certainly cannot overlook the fact that both of Furman's marquee men's sports programs have excellent leadership.
Furman can take a lesson from our friends in Spartanburg at how quickly things can turn when you aren't able to retain quality coaches for these programs.
