Agree, they did a great job with incorporating the watch event, practice/scrimmage and clinic for the kids!

Perusing the roster, not much has changed. It does appear that Xavier Stephens is now listed at 280+ and has moved to NG.

Stephens had 4.5 sacks and 28 tackles last season as a rotational player. He’s already a quick and explosive player, and by the fall he’ll probably add even more size and become a real terror on the defensive interior.

Furman looks like it will have a very strong defensive front in 2023. Lot of production returning off a very good 2022 defense.

It concluded with the Spring scrimmage on 3/18/23. A lot of "Hoopla" that weekend. ;)

Gotcha. I think I was expecting the Furman spring practice to align with the spring practice schedule for South Carolina/Clemson/etc. It's like they're all in a different division of football or something.

CCH likes to start spring practice earlier than most programs.

The end to FBS P5 vs. FCS games is coming to an end within the next few years, despite games already scheduled. There are plenty of outs in the contract for the P5 schools. This is a way to keep some decent money coming in for the FCS programs. Otherwise, it is going to be extremely difficult to continue to fund FCS programs. This is a good article in The Athletic about the pros and cons of a real spring game, especially FBS vs. FCS. “Should college football teams play actual spring games? The case for a true scrimmage.” https://theathletic.com/4380607/2023/04 ... ed_article

Oh look - “The end to FBS P5 vs. FCS games is coming to an end” in this article also … https://archive.jsonline.com/blogs/spo ... 3281.html/

…from 10 years ago.

FUBeAR views these predictions with as much fear and horror as he views Al Gore’s lunatic predictions of global apocalypse due to man-bear-pig (and cow, of course) -made climate change.

Nothing but …

…and this supremely goofy idea that arose from the FCS (unnecessary) Covid spring season…that FCS Teams should play a Spring Season with some non-counting games as ‘fodder’ for FBS underclassmen to have a more realistic Spring Scrimmage…makes about as much sense as being compelled to prevent transmission of viruses by wearing masks that don’t do anything at all to prevent transmission of viruses. Cockamamie, fakakta, balderdash!

Also…nothing but…

Hard to believe anyone would ever fall for any of these scams.

Nick Saban likes playing regional FCS teams. FBS vs FCS isn't going anywhere.

No access to the Athletic, but my thoughts below:

As long as Clemson and Alabama fans don't know the difference between playing an FCS school vs. a mediocre FBS school and the game sells out - The Power 5 schools will keep scheduling FCS schools. Neither one is much of a challenge on the field, both have the same crowd draw, and the FCS schools cost half as much.

Most of these Power 5 schools schedule local FCS schools because they usually have overlapping fan bases so the stadiums aren't empty. As long as Furman can keep convincing the Clemson's, NC State's, and Tennessee's of the world that they will bring an OK crowd, not upset them, and charge them less than an an FBS program, I can't see these games ending.

If the rules change where playing FCS teams do not count as wins - then yes, these games will go away quickly.

I think as long as the Nick Sabans and Dabo Swiineys of the world are in favor of these games they are not going away. There are benefits to the FBS programs as well. Remember the Big 10 tried to stop playing FCS games. Didn’t last long as they have many FCS now scheduled. The nonsense of playing in the spring comes up every year. Pure hogwash. Agree wholeheartedly with the Bear!

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage
