Playing downtown again has done a great job with connecting back with the city of Greenville and slowly growing the fan base

Through 8 FU games downtown, Bon Secours Wellness Arena attendance has been:

3,740 12/14/19 Winthrop
4,646 1/11/20 UNCG
6,096 2/22/20 Wofford
3,217 1/8/22 Mercer
3,616 2/5/22 UNCG
5,332 2/19/22 Wofford
4,117 12/17/22 SF Austin
6,199 2/4/23 Wofford

I guess it is deceiving with such a spacious arena. I would have never guessed even 4,000. And agree it feels nothing like the brown box in the past. I am in the minority in that I think we have a much greater home court advantage at Timmons. I just don’t see a home court advantage in such a spacious arena with many empty seats in the lower bowl. But if the players and coaches like it, so be it.

I am not sure this is correct. Probably before your tme but you’re forgetting the sold out/standing room only crowds at the old auditorium back in the 70’s early 80’s.
I am pretty sure the Brown Box only held 5,000 for basketball. Maybe we can get Dan to verify the record attendance with Jordan Caskey. You would think that we would make a huge deal of the attendance if it was indeed an all time record. I looked through the basketball press guide, but did not see any info for the largest attendance records. https://s3.us-east-2.amazonaws.com/side ... ok2023.pdf
Largest home game attendance (highest 15) and away game attendance (highest 15) should be part of next year’s BB RECORD BOOK (or MEDIA GUIDE - whatever you call it).

The players do indeed love it, that is a fact

Nobody thinks it gives us a better home court advantage, that is not the reason for playing a few games downtown, its to grow the program

I see an advantage to playing in front of 6200 people vs. 2400. And NO PLANS at present to increase the capacity of Timmons. That's 3800 butts in the seats we wouldn't have been able to accomodate on campus.

Agree, and if we can ever land a P6 team to come play us downtown that will be BIG TIME fun!

Timmons would be much better if they would pump in the fresh popped popcorn smell from the Box.

Improvements seem to run in multiples of $20-40M

Timmons Reno +40M
Practice Facility +20M
New Arena +40M (100M total)

so if anybody wants to be the good guy... come on!

I don’t know if you attended the tripleheader back in December but there was just over 4k for that event. The crowd last.night was much larger. Every section in the lower bowl had many people, some full plus there were a few peeps in the upper level.

The Amazing Sladek used what, 8 chairs plus one table in his halftime show?
Maybe more that 8, I don't know. Stopped counting chairs so I could keep eyes on him to see if he was going to kill himself or not.
Anyway, I say the attendance number should be increased by at least 10 for all of his props, which mainly were the chairs he used for his performance. He used every one of them.
And let's not forget to count HIM and his assistants plus maybe the extra on-site EMT and ambulance crew, so add at least another 10 for all that.
So I say it was probably 6,199 + 20 = 6,219 attendance.

I think it probably is correct, but there were greater crowds announced. It was commonly claimed that the Auditorium held as many as 6,000. Because I worked with Furman at the same time as busybody head coach Jene Davis, I know that GMA had 3,434 seats. -- MD

Which really does make sense, since there were only about 6 rows or so in the lower sections of GMA

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage
