It seems to me that the conference is significantly down this year. You have the “big 3” and then 4 teams that could beat a top 3 team on a given night-not high likelihood but at least a possibility ((Wofford, ETSU, Western & UTC).

I am not sure the top 3 are as strong as the top teams in the conference are most years. Am I wrong?

Furman is great and as good as any top team to be in the SoCon over the last 10+ years

You’re not wrong. The SoCon has been 13th/14th in KenPom conference ratings last 4-5 years, after being 19th/20th back in the 90s and 2000s. Currently the SoCon sits at 18th.

When you look at the quality of coaches the conference has lost over the last few years it’s not a surprise.

So are we just talking about the past 5 or 6 years?

Because historically the SoCon has always been a fairly low rated league

I would say the last 5-6 years. I would vote that the conference is not as good this year top to bottom AND I also think there is probably a little drop-off at the top-compared to the last 5 years or so.

Warren Noland has this years Conf NET at 19. It had been around 12 the last couple years. There were alot of coaching changes last year and that means losing players and transfers

Maybe, but remember the two best teams this year (Furman and Samford) were also two of the best teams last year as well

About Us

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage
