Seriously, I only said top 50. The only championship I mentioned was the SoCon. If we have guys with $40M to blow, we can easily buy the firepower to win SoCon basketball. Not talking SEC football. In 2023 if winning is the goal (and it may not be, that's OK) you spend the money on NIL, not pretty facilities. It makes perfect sense to fix up Timmons if the goal is to have a nicer place to watch games. And that's a reasonable goal. But it makes less sense if the goal is to have a better team.

We just need to get the guys we try to recruit. Not talking about bringing in the wrong kind of kid. But since we fish in a really small pond, we need to get ALL of the best fish. Think about it. Scholarly b'ball player Joe is recruited by Furman and the usual suspects. Some of them have marginally nicer facilities. Some (Ivies) offer greater snob appeal. We offer $50K/yr. Where does Joe go? This is isn't difficult to figure out.

I get what your saying no doubt, but also Timmons as is sucks and I want to watch FU play home games in a nice arena too

Since Timmons is still technically a multi-use arena as we speak right now, Timmons Arena should have one more concert for old times sake by the likes of say the Oak Ridge Boys, The Statler Brothers or Up With People for old times sake. Wait, somebody get Michael Bolton's agent on the phone. I'm sure he's not booked up too heavily these days. Think of it, "An Evening with Michael Bolton, One Night Only at Furman's Timmons Arena". One can only dream. You know.... for old times sake. <sniff>

We hear a lot from JD and CBR about forward thinking, dream big etc If more seats are not added that is niether of these IMHO. We have a chance to correct a 25 year old mistake. Fix it but fix it right! 3,000-3,500 seats would be ideal. 4,000 tops. Don’t make another Timmon’s mistake.

The HP arena is not a basketball arena. Its an entertainment palace

If a very nice arena = NCAA trips, HP should be dancing every year!

If the new Timmons is 1/2 as nice should be pretty good

Only piece missing for Dins is practice court

PS HP has not been to NCCA in the last 24 years

Of course its not just having a nice arena (see Elon also lol), you've got to have the right coach who knows how to work with that schools admin to get a winning culture in place. Arena is just one piece of the puzzle that we need checked off to have a fully well rounded program that can help sustain winning.

About Us

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage

GoPaladins.com is not affiliated with Furman University or its athletics programs.
