Gilby played his usual great game, our Front Seven was outstanding.
I watched a replay of the game last night. If I could give the Game Ball to a unit instead of an individual, it would go to the D Line. Those guys absolutely destroyed Mercer.

Mercer’s O-Line has been heavily challenged this year. They lost 2 All SoCon OG’s - 1 to the NFL & 1 to an FBS via the portal. OG’s are the key to the Running game in a Wang-T based O. Then, they lost their Starting LT to injury. So, only the RT (now LT) and Center have any real experience. They have plugged in mostly R-FR & True FR in the OG spots, moved the RT to LT, and have been filling in with a patchwork of early-ish career transfers and other new Players. As has been discussed here many times, experience in the OL might be the most important attribute for an O-Line to be successful. Considering all this, they’ve done a darn good job hiding this liability, but better D fronts - like Chatt & FU are gonna expose them. Hopefully, Samford’s Front 7 talent is not quite up to Paladin & Moc standards AND/OR the lights come on for the Bears young OLmen this week. They definitely had the opportunity to learn some good lessons last week.

We all know Furman rotates heavily on defense, but I think there's a psychological advantage to doing that.
Those linemen look up and constantly see new personnel in front of them all with different skill sets. Trying to block Sochovka, for instance, presents different problems for linemen than trying to block Stansfield or Stephens.
Furman essentially runs a two platoon along the defensive front seven. They keep that rotation all game and, by the fourth quarter, the defensive front is fresher and more rested than the offensive line trying to block them.
