Couldn’t have said it better roundball. For those who attended how was attendance? From the livestream it looked to be a packed crowd.
Very good crowd

Only knock was no band there for some reason?
Band wasn’t there because of a symphonic band concert. But great spirit overall!
I do not have a problem with the band not being there with the excuse they had. At Furman, academics comes before games. I assume the symphonic band is at least partially academics and not just entertainment. If such a big deal to basketball to have band there, basketball should have rescheduled the game to Thursday night or Sunday afternoon or something else.
The music that was there (recorded) was great, and so was the sound system. Bell Tower Boys rendition of Star Spangled Banner (live) was superb.

That was as awesome a game as I have seen at Timmons in a long time. No negatives. This is going to be a special season.
Jordan Lyons’s final home game (2020) is very memorable, but last night against Belmont was the most awesome game I’ve ever seen in Timmons ( … most awesome so far; looking forward to more!).

Right now we have moved up 5 spots in kenpom to #63. 👍
How do we compare in kenpom presently with Penn State, South Carolina, VCU, CofC, Winthrop, and NCSU?
Sorry, I do not have time to look it up right now. Other than some of those above, who are the regular season opponents on our schedule who may be presently above us?

Attendance was excellent, but it should have been better (totally the fault of those who did not attend - unless they had a “legitimate excuse”; NOT any fault of Furman’s promotions efforts, in my opinion). The students were really into the game. The non-students were mostly moribund and passive, as is typical; but at least they attended.

I agree about the crowd. Why are there so many empty seats behind the benches? Are those season ticket holders that don’t show up?

Don’t agree with your assessment of the non student crowd and yes I do have a problem with the band not being there.

Furman is currently #63. Penn St is the only one on the schedule ranked higher:
34. Penn St.
72. NC State
83. South Carolina
87. VCU
177 Winthrop
185 Charleston
107 UNCG highest ranked SoCon team besides FU.

Not saying you’re wrong, and not saying FU shouldn’t set the example, but I’m inclined to reference @affirm’s list of ‘self-selected peer colleges’, particularly those w/ D-1 athletics (Davidson, Holy Cross, Lafayette , Bucknell, Richmond, & Colgate). My hunch is their bands would’ve attended the concert.

While @affirm asked about VCU, and your KenPom citation is correct, my reading of the Charleston Classic shows VaTech as the opponent, not VCU. Mike Young’s team is currently listed at #18 on KenPom. In any case, next weekend promises to be as thrilling as this one is.

100% the band should be there
That's how big time college basketball will work once FU gets to that point ;)

Anther point on the band, how many people attended their concert?
Guessing it was much less than the 2,100 in Timmons that would have loved to hear them on Friday night

As a former member of the Furman band, I can assure you that no one on campus supports Furman Athletics more with their time & energy than the Pep Band & Marching Band. But sometimes - like last Friday - they have other engagements.

Perhaps our Football and Basketball teams should be required to attend Furman Band concerts.

On the post-game show CBR mentioned this was a four-game series. I take it two home & homes apiece? Next year return to Belmont? Just inspired scheduling! Well done!!
Yes when the series was announced a couple of years ago it was 2 there 2 here.

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage
