sure wish we were playing Davidson or SC State instead of NGU that first game. Would give us an FCS win opportunity - one that I think we would win. We all know how important FCS v D2 is

While I don't love seeing D2s on the schedule in 11 game seasons, we need to put that behind us.

Every respectable FCS team in the south wants to play weaker FCS schools and notch those "easy" D1 wins. There aren't that many of them to go around. Sometimes, you gotta just play the best schedule you can come up with.

Furman has plenty of chances to win and move up in the rankings. If we don't, it'll be our fault, not because we scheduled North Greenville.

GF — I'll take the bite on "what if key injuries happen"?

First, that can happen for any team in the SoCon… what happens if Saylors at ETSU or Ford at Chatty go down?
Again this is subjective, but IMO Furman has done an excellent job recruiting and building depth. Especially in the defensive backfield and offensive backfield.

We could see 7-4 or 8-3 this season. It's all a guess right now.

Furman needed to address its 3rd down woes on defense. Furman gets two critical players back and adds a transfer on the line. Furman gets two critical players back in the defensive backfield and adds a very experienced defensive coach.

Concerning the new offensive system - it appears the players are being successful at making the transition, and they like the scheme. I would be more pessimistic if we didn't have an experienced, talented o-line.

Astrodin, absolutely this is an area we HAVE to improve. Agree. Third down defense. Giving up 3rd and 11 just will NOT cut it. So painful to watch us hold for 2 downs and then give up a third and long. It's going to happen some, we just allow it too much. We do. And have for years.

Love being the underdog. #6, #11 and #18 = plenty of opportunity to earn the respect!

Dude’s a bellhop; an avowed Furman-hater. If FU is 10-0, including a win over Clemson, we might crack his Top 25 before the final week of the season.

The problem with being an unranked underdog in FCS is you NEED to be in the poll when playoffs come around. It would be better if we were already ranked top 20... Hope that is the case next year based on this year !
