Soooo I still wonder about our pass D. Examples:
-Elon lit us up with anything they wanted to do.
- Once ETSU realized Henrik was the man they stormed back with 20+ unanswered points in a quarter and beat us. Painful
- WCU almost pulled off the comeback down 20 or so to finish 44-38. Thankfully we held on to this one
Today, Hodges was 40/52 for 400+ passing yards. Same as it ever was
Now I don't doubt we COULD have won the game with a healthy Roberts and an offense that could move the ball more.. I left feeling better that we could beat Samford. That said, I still felt our pass D isn't good. Especially vs a quick-throw offense. The good part of our pass D is our pass rush and the quick routes / 3 second drop of Samford eliminates that.
Though even when Hodges did take a while to find a receiver we couldn't get to him. Either the pass pro was too good or he would slide towards the sideline. Have to give Hodges credit - his ability to run to the sideline and get five yards while keeping his head downfield was great. And that one pass for their final TD he threw when we blitzed and he went running left and threw a perfect TD... Man. That was a Dagger.
SO GLAD Hodges and McKnight and Ahmad Gooden on DL are all graduating - I've seen enough of those guys !
Thoughts on pass D? I know about the ' keep it in front of you' theory but before someone defends that even Hendrix said that was too high a completion percentage on the post-game radio show ... Though I would have liked to play that game with Roberts. I do think we might could win w Roberts. Never know.
