I attended Saturday's practice.

Andrew Brown had boot removed last week and has been cleared by his doctor. Now working his way back into shape. Did not participate in practice but was there and fairly active. Shooting a good bit etc

Hard to tell a lot from this practice. BUT I can tell you that Gurley looks like a new man--has grown an inch and put on 25 lbs. Gonna be hard to keep him off the court.

Bothwell looks good--he is big for a guard too. Listed at 6-3. I suspect he will play.

Jaylen Pugh has impressed in early workouts--guard, 6-0.

Slawson, 6-7, could not tell much there. I wonder if they red shirt him?

J Williams--while he may have made progress, I do not see him in any role different from last year. Maybe some more minutes?

The question to me is who starts with Brown, Hunter, Rafferty and Lyons. Gurley is my guess. Mounce will play a good bit more this year.

I’d say it’s between Gurley and Mounce and from what I hear Mounce has the edge. Experience plus he’s developed over the summer. But Gurley will get a lot of minutes.

Thanks for the report(s). Why don't we have an exhibition game this year? Seems like with all the new faces this would be good.

Richey has said that he prefers using the two pre-season games for scrimmages against D1 teams.

Under NCAA rules the results of those scrimmages can't be officially reported, although rumors always seem to escape custody.

That's kinda funny that he prefers to scrimmage D1 teams and play non-D1 teams when it counts. Seems to me it should be the other way around. :?

Really? I don’t think so. Test them with the scrimmages. Challenge them when the results don’t count, then schedule a couple of glorified practices to work on the deficiencies.

I left out one thing.

While at practice, I recognized Coach John Shulman, former head coach at UTC and an asst at several other SoCon schools (ETSU when they had Mister Jennings) I introduced myself and we had a good chat. He was there with his wife and son, who is a senior in high school. Wants to play bball at next level and may walk on at Furman. Shulman was head coach at private school in Chatty, McCallie, but is now "just doing the Dad thing."

He knows Coach Richey quite well.
