Furman hopes to add to its giant killer history Saturday at N.C. State

According to at least on UFFP poster, Furman does not hope to, but instead Furman EXPECTS to, add to its giant killer history Saturday at NC State. Great expectations. Good luck.

So…I believe 2 posters mentioned “the south” with regard to Covid. Fully aware this is off-topic, but just want to say/show that, for the most part, the current increases are NOT in the South. Seems to have peaked (again) in the South and increasing, despite (typically) having much higher vaccination rates, where all of the ‘smart’ people in our country live, i.e., not “the South.”

‘We’ just peaked earlier. Doesn’t seem to have been caused because we were all too stupid to get vaccinated. I just hope Uncle Joe & the rest of the country will continue to be so patient with us. Hey - maybe packing into Football stadiums helps prevent Covid. We need some peeps to study that - next week vs. Mercer would be a good time to participate in that study at Paladin Stadium. ;-)

Jeepers FUBeAR, I mentioned the South because where I live (Augusta) things are pretty F’up in our hospitals. But they are slightly better than before. AU (formerly MCG) reports about 30 fewer than last week. In the ICU, out of 47 0% are vaccinated by the way.

I have been resistant to the notion that Southern stupidity is causing our Covid woes. It seems obvious to me that this virus is very seasonal and we are having a surge in CASES now that other regions will see in the coming weeks. But our hospitalization rate is clearly driven by idiots who refuse to get vaccinated. They have a right to go unvaccinated, but I know people who are having operations and cancer treatments deferred because of them and that sucks. If they are afraid to get a freaking shot, fine. But they should stay home if they get Covid.

Didn’t intend to call you out per se, but also tired of the finger-pointing and the aspersions being cast at my people - y’know, rednecks.

Your closing line is a bit troubling though, but I’ll table that debate.

The 2 pieces of great news are the ‘rona is waning again in the South & the smart people in those non-southern states, where it’s now rapidly waxing, won’t have these hospital capacity issues because of their much higher (in most cases) vax rates. Not ‘zactly sure why they would be experiencing such similar wax-up case rates as we Southerners saw in recent weeks, since they’re all vaxxed up, but I’ll just hope & pray that the more recent headlines about the miraculous therapeutic (essentially) properties of the vax are more accurate than the similar earlier headlines we read about its near-perfect prophylactic success.

I am skeptical about media accounts myself. But our local hospitals post their numbers and I mostly trust them. For several weeks they have been pretty overwhelmed. And the ICU numbers are always >90% unvaccinated.
You are going to see hospitalization spikes in the “smart” states as well but probably confined to the cities. And actually our previous infection numbers are so high that added to our slightly lower vax rate they are probably nearly equal to immunization rates in the “smart” states.

But we do have too damn many people going to the hospital with something they could have avoided. That just isn’t even debatable anymore. And it is impacting the care of people who themselves have done everything they were supposed to do. That isn’t fair.

It is actually possible that a player with a severe injury tomorrow will have to wait for hours in the ER because of Covid cases. It will mostly be a painful inconvenience but still messed up.

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage
