Don’t want to argue but I’ve seen several videos from Asheville of peeps going in stores, picking up stuff and walking out without paying with no resistance. Never seen any of those in Greenville. I have complete confidence in Greenville police, not so much in Asheville. Greenville police has a huge presence in downtown Greenville. Read the above post where palafan was in Asheville all day and never saw a police person. That won’t happen in Greenville.
I witnessed, and tried to stop, blatant two-man team of thieves at Walgreens in TR. They walked out loaded with stuff shouting, “What cha’ gonna do about it?” NOTHING! The store clerks asked me to go out and see if I could spot them.
They had quickly disappeared.

I ran over a kid for stealing some cartons of Newports out of one of Father Garvin's stores. It was not lethal but rather a 15 mph bump with the door. Knocked the little turd into a ditch. Took back the smokes and told him to call the cops if he had a problem.

How recently did this vignette occur, Fred?

Cuz, FUBeAR thinks if you did that in today’s environs, you would be quickly wearing new bracelets, have your face all over Facebook, Twitter, and the nightly news. Depending on other circumstances, you might also be looking at Federal Hate Crime time along with a complete proctological-like FBI investigation into your private affairs, those of the entire Garvin clan, and those of your close friends, colleagues, and associates. Y’know?

Apart from concerns that stretch far beyond the dimensions of the arena, Asheville is perfect for the SoCon. No matter who's strong or who's weak, the tournament will thrive because of its proximity to member schools. It can't go wrong. -- MD

Greenville is just as good proximity wise if not better.

The other SoCon schools would never agree to having the Tourney in Greenville because of the home court/home town advantage for Furman. Right?

Nope…not “just as good”… 3.6x Better - unless something has changed since we established the following on 5/21 in a similar thread…

The geographic center of the SoCon (10 schools’ long./lat. coordinates) is here…

1685 E Poinsett Street Extension, Greer, SC
(conveniently located nearby the Persecuted Tattoo shop - Players could add some new ink between games…if only there were also a nearby basketball arena)

This address is 18 miles from Bon Secours Wellness Arena, North Academy Street, Greenville, SC.

This address is 65 miles from Harrah's Cherokee Center - Asheville, Haywood Street, Asheville, NC.

You da man FUBear!!
Thank you. As such, FUBeAR always feels obligated to bring new information to the table for consideration.

Some people might argue that tenure/seniority matters. Well, based on the number of years that each of the 10 schools has been part of the SoCon, the tenure weighted geographic center of the conference does move a good bit. In that calculation, the center of the SoCon is off of a dirt road, off of Whelchel Road with a Mooresboro, NC address. Mooresboro is near Boiling Springs, NC, where Gardner Webb U. is located.

Anyway…Bon Secours in GVille still remains 20 miles closer to this point (54 miles) than Harrah’s Arena in Asheville (74 miles).

BTW - included both ETSU’s & VMI’s prior SoCon stints in this calculation.

Now…if we only count those 2’s most recent stints in our tenure-weighted average, then the CENTER OF THE SOCON…

Fred Garvin is gonna love this….

THE CENTER OF THE SOCON IS IN GRAY COURT, SC…just off Crawford Road…31 miles to Bon Secours & 93 miles to Harrah’s.

Great information to know. On the other hand, if these calculations had not worked out in Furman’s favor, it would be much less interesting to me. In any case, thanks for continuously enlightening us.

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage
