Latest offer, reported in the last hour -

Ben VanderWal 6'7" sf from Elmhurst IL Timothy Christian School

Do-it-all type - can shoot the three, drive, pass, and defend. VanderWal has been racking up a bunch of offers after playing in an AAU event in Atlanta last week. He has double digit offers now with half of them just in the past three or four days.

Denzel Aberdeen 6'4" pg from Dr. Phillips HS in Orlando, FL is the latest offer from the Paladins. Dr. Phillips was the 7A state championship winner this season. Aberdeen scored 27 points in their 54-46 victory over Dwyer HS of Palm Beach Gardens in the final.

Aberdeen now has 17 reported offers. Among them are offers from Illinois, Texas Tech, Virginia Tech, Mississippi, Cincinnati, and VCU, Almost all of his offers have come in the past month.

Smooth, athletic point guard with size and an excellent outside shot.

Even though we have no chance good to see coaches aiming high!

Ajay Sheldon, the 6'1" PG from Ohio has committed to Ohio University. He chose Ohio over the Paladins, Wofford, and Elon.

It will interesting to see if Furman offers any of the other guards they have been watching or if they feel good about the guys they have already offered.

BTW, does anyone know how many scholarships they plan to use this year? There are potentially four spots open, but if they use all four that would possibly only leave one spot for next year. They might want to save one to even out the classes. Of course it you sign guys you really like you can always use a redshirt to even out the classes that way.

Do we really need guards? We currently have 9 on the roster.

We lose at least 4 after this season. Surely you’re not suggesting you know more about Division 1 basketball recruiting than actual college coaches.

Yes I am. No we only lose one guard after this year, Alex Hunter. All other “seniors” can come back if they want to.

There are ten players listed as guards on the latest roster. Two are walk-ons who didn't play much. Two are 5th year seniors Hunter and transfer Conley Garrison. Two are 4th year seniors Bothwell and Pugh who could come back for a 5th year but might not. One is Marcus Foster who is really a wing or small forward and not a guard. That leaves three guards who should be back for the 22-23 season, which is the one being recruited for now. The players still on the recruiting list are all 6'4" or taller and could play wing or small forward in addition to guard. Most of them are better suited for shooting guard or wing than point guard anyway.

Cross another one off the list. Connor Essegian, the 6'4" sg from Indiana has narrowed his recruiting list from 25 to 7. The Paladins not on the list. All of his top 7, but 1, are from the Midwest - Wisconsin, Minnesota, Butler, Creighton, Wake Forest, Loyola-Chicago, and Purdue-Fort Wayne. Almost all of those schools except home town Purdue-Ft. Wayne only came in with offers in the last two weeks (Loyola was a month ago.)

Obviously never had a chance with him anyway.

I wouldn't say never had a chance. We would have had a legit chance if the P6 conference teams hadn't jumped in the past couple of weeks. Those schools who just came in with offers better be looking over their shoulders though. Indiana just had four players they were after say no and the Hoosiers need some guards and small forwards and have four open scholarships to use.

I might be wrong, but I thought the exemption for seniors to have an extra year was for the past season only.

No, anyone on the team last year was given an extra year regardless of class.

Denzel Aberdeen, 6'4" pg from Florida , has narrowed his list to eight schools. Seven P5 schools and Iona. Favorites from that list could be Georgia Tech, Florida, and Oklahoma - those are his first three official visits.

Again no point in talkng about these type players with P5 offers. We have zero chance. Even worse now since the NIL thingy.

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage
