The annual preseason countdown of the nation's best teams is underway on the website College Sports Madness.

LINK

They are currently up to #114 - UC-Irvine - and have ranked three of the five SoCon teams that will be in the 144.
Chattanooga was #144, Mercer was #129, and ETSU came in at #118.

My guess is that Furman and Wofford will be the top two from the SoCon. UNCG could have had almost everyone back but Isaiah Miller decided not to use his free COVID year of eligibility and five other players transferred out, including three who followed Wes Miller to Cincinnati. Furman has a higher pre-season rating in Pomeroy's rankings and is ESPN's current SoCon favorite but that is no guarantee of how CSM will look at the rankings.

They may have to redo the rating for Chattanooga. They just signed a 5-star rated transfer from Kansas, Silvio De Sousa. His career at Kansas was, as the phrase goes, problematic.

De Sousa has NBA level athleticism at 6'9" 245 but only averaged 4 ppg and 4 reb. as a freshman and 3 ppg. and 3 reb. as a sophomore. He missed the last third of his sophomore season because of his involvement in a brawl in the KU-Kansas State game. He was using a chair as a weapon. He missed all of last year and has a trial coming up in August over a fight at an apartment complex last year that permanently blinded another man.

I guess anger control isn't one of his virtues.

My guess: College Sports Madness is standing pat on UT-C's rating pending the outcome of the trial.

What losses for Furman? We return 3 starters. Arguably the best 1-2 guards in the conference. They again will be a top 4 team regardless of the losses of Mounce and Gurley. Just like they were after the losses of Acox, Croone, Sibley, Fowler, Beans, Rafferty, Brown, Lyons, etc…

All the other losses we had peeps ready to step up. Please tell me who you expect to step up and replace Gurley and Mounce.

Players will step up under a Coach Richey and staff led effort. We will be fine.

Who says we don't have people ready to step up? Hien, Lawerence, Foster, any of the freshman forwards...

At the risk of hijacking a topic being addressed elsewhere, in previous years by now Coach has given us a glimpse of what he's seeing in practice. Who's stepping up, who are the surprises, workout/drill emphases & adjustments, etc. My guess is @apaladin isn't the only one here wondering, he's just got the biggest ...... mouth.

Name of the game this year is WIN the SOCON period

Dins need to be able to go 10 deep, have fresh legs and experience.

If it means a couple Ls during the season to earn some experience, so be it

CBR has proven they can wins games during reg season. Now need to make it happen come tourney time

SD IMHO

Didn’t he try that last year? Played lots of players, lots of combinations. Didn’t work too well.

It is mind boggling that “fans” of favorite teams are so negative about the players, coaches, program, etc. It just sounds like a very not fun way to cheer on a team that you have endless pessimism towards. Why even root for them?

Certainly not negative, just skeptical.

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage
