Clearly enough?

That's a good picture.
But no, not clearly enough of your explanation of the reason for Disclaimer 1.
It does not tell why continuing to support football in the SoCon is the best thing to do rather than considering transitioning to the Pioneer Football League.
It does tell what we did in the past, but not in the future.
Relatively few people know how many times, and when, Furman has won the SoCon in football. The number of people who know and who care is a decreasing number. And I am talking about just people in Greenville and in SC, and it is much less people beyond that.
If we would win another SoCon football championship by 2026 (Furman's 200 year anniversary of existence) then staying in the SoCon until then might possibly be reasonable. I do not see enough signs of our level of competitiveness moving in that direction.
Maybe it (the history, the past achievements) is a recruiting tool, but I am not convinced that is a good enough reason; and it becomes decreasingly less of a recruiting tool as years go by and as those championships are farther and farther into the past.
If we would go through the next 6 seasons (21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26) without another SoCon championship, we would wish that we had at least begun serious study and serious consideration by 2021.
2026 would be 8 years after our last SoCon championship and would be 9 years after our last FCS playoff win (that being a 1-point win followed the next week by another sad loss to "mighty" Wofford).
