The reason why I support coach Richey is the fact that he's a genuine leader...That can be said for most of the coaches in the league...WCU fans are finding out that its former coach was not who many thought he was...It was easy to see with their collapse this year...The reason for program's like Furman not using the portal is because it is so tough academically that it really makes no sense...I feel like some people treat program's like ETSU or UTC more negatively because they bring in JUCOs or transfers a lot....That's ok...Good kids are at JUCOs too and that's their identity and they know that landscape...Because other team's improve their program's that way isn't too the detriment of Furman...But what the NCAA is allowing with player's to transfer without sitting out a year to power programs very much is...Here's the catch...Coach Richey is someone that is trustworthy, loyal and a man of faith...I think a lot of a majority of coaches in this league are genuine people...But the thing that I like so much about Bob is despite the fact that the NCAA is making it hard for a program like Furman to keep guys because Furman is developing high-level talent, it doesn't change who Bob is...I respect the hell out of that...Kids that come to Furman are smart...They see that...They can spot a phony person real quick...I'm not ever going to worry about Furman getting what it needs as long as he is here. or even going back to Niko...The biggest secret in recruiting has nothing to do with basketball...It's recruiting want, sacrifice, and willing...A good coaching staff can do the rest....Furman has that...On some level, this game in college hurts us sometimes...We grow to find friends and lifelong friends in this business...teammates become brothers...It happens that way at the Loyola Chicagos and the UMBCs of the world...That's why when you lose a Noah Gurley or a Tre Clark to transfer it hurts as more than losing a whole team at Texas or UNC...As long as Furman is hurting for losing a person rather than a stat line, I know Furman's basketball program is made of the right stuff under Richey...It's why I will support that whole staff and all the players long after their careers at Furman...That part of Furman basketball hasn't been the norm...Maybe Estes was the last time Furman hoops had that family feel prior to Niko and Bob...Point being I am okay with losing stats, but it hurts to lose friends and people...As long as its that way, Furman has the right people running the show...Furman's not going anywhere...It's not going to decline when it genuinely hurts to lose a Jalen Williams...I am so okay with Furman being that kind of program.
