To go along with your metaphor.... Wes Miller is literally in the driver's seat for this job. Far from doubtful.
SD would bet Apalidin's paycheck that this is not going to happen

UNCG is 108th. Of the 107 coaches ahead of them, there are, what maybe 15-20 who would turn down UNC? So it seems like a big jump for Miller to make.

If you think AD’s are using Kenpom as their metric for hiring a new ball coach, you just have no idea how coaching searches work... Miler is the favorite along with Hubert Davis.
Obviously they don’t base it strictly on the Kenpom. But for most jobs you get the best guy you can get. They can get almost anybody they ask. So is a guy who struggles to win the SoCon really the best available (when pretty much everybody is available)?
And when you watch UNCG, do they really look well coached? But since you’ve hired a whole bunch of college coaches, I yield to your expertise.

If MIller does get it, you can say that the SoCon is the proving grounds for ACC coaches!

Young to Va Tech
ETSU to Wake Forest
MIller to UNC

Tony Bennett +900
Jay Wright +1200
Nate Oats +1400

and the great thing is that Greensboro is about an hour away from Chapel Hill so just think how much they will save on the relocation costs! Probably $10,000

The athletic director at UNC has said that they will probably favor a current head coach. Hubert Davis has never been a head coach. His coaching career consists of 10 years as an assistant at UNC. All of the other listed favorites are head coaches.

I agree, Jay Wright would be a great choice but also doubt it happens. The absolute best choice IMHO would be Brad Stevens, but I doubt that happens, too.

I grew up in N.C. and have always been a huge Tar Heel fan going all the way back to the 1960's when I was a kid and think both Coach Smith and Coach Williams have been great coach's. Went to basketball camp around '64-'65 and had some Carolina players as counselors. Anybody remember Ray Respass and Ray Hassle? I didn't think so. :D

It's going to be a tough job to follow in RW's footsteps. The Carolina fans will have no mercy if whoever takes the job fails. Ask Matt Doherty. And never forget they hung Dean Smith in effigy in the early 60's.

The Athletic thoughts on Wes Miller.

“Wes Miller, UNC Greensboro head coach. If North Carolina wants this to be the last time it hires a coach for the next 30 years, it has a chance to make that call. Miller is 38. He has taken UNC Greensboro from the absolute basement to two NCAA Tournament appearances in the last three tournaments that have been held. He’s as close to a non-blood relative son to Roy Williams as can be. Miller would offer the best of all worlds: The “family” hire who also brings a different energy and fresh perspective to the program.”

Yep, Miller’s obviously the next Roy Williams.
He’s a UNC guy.

He has conference championships under his belt (SoCon instead of Big 12 but hey, it’s pretty much the same thing).

Two recent appearances in the NCAA tournament. OK, Williams might have made it a little further (consecutive final fours), but that’s nit picking.

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage
